True Image Home 2018 freezes my router to which my HDD attached

Thread needs solution

I have an Asus RT-AC87U router to which I attached an HDD and use it as a network attached drive. When I back my files on it, after a couple of hours, my router freezes, so I have to reset it. With the new 2019 version (used a trial) it freezes even faster -- in a couple of minutes.

Why do I seek assistance here? Because with EaseUS I don't have such a problem! I ran the tests several times with success.

So, any idea what is happening?

Also, Acronis isn't capable of backing up using FTP, it simply stops with ETA eternity.

I have not tried using Acronis with my Asus RT-AC68U so cannot be definitive. I assume you are running the latest firmware on the RT-AC87U. Have you checked the QoS settings to see if they can be tweeked to facilitate data flow to the attached USB HDD. I assume that it is a USB 3 drive and has sufficient space for the task being run. Also confirm that the drive is appropriately specified in the settings as USB 2 or USB 3.

It occurs to me the problem may be caused by the power settings on the USB 3 drive - that it is not having sufficient time to come out of "hibernation" - it may help if you provided the drive model.

May I suggest that you also look at the Acronis log file as it may give some insight about what is happening. To view the log file you need to use the MVP Log Viewer developed by FtrPilot - you can access it from the MVP User Tools and Tutorials.

Could you also give details of the backup task - approximate size of the files being backed up may help in working through the problem.
