Acronis True Image 2019 does not find full backup .tib files for recovery

Thread needs solution

Hi I'm using acronis true image to back up my user folders on windows 10 and a pictures folders.

I have ALOT of data. My family pictures and movies are about 1.5 terabytes and my user folders are about 500Gigabytes (i have alot of mp3's).

I have a qnap external NAS that is connected by a 1gbyte lan cable, and it has a storage capacity of 32terabytes.

I have a section on the nas devoted to storage of my backups.

When i use ACronis to back up the pictures folder or my user folders, it backs them up fine. I have an initial full backup then incremental backups after that. when acronis gets to about the 6th , 7th or 8th increment, it fails to find the full backup file and tries to create a new full backup. Also, when i go to click on recovery to view what my backups contain, one day it works fine and then the next day i click on "recovery" for that backup and it says it cannot find my full backup .tib file. However, the file is there and the NAS is accessible. I click the "browse" button on the error screen that pops up that says it can't find the full backup .tib file, and i browse/navigate to it fine and add it. and Acronis STILL says it cannot find the file.

I have the NAS backup folder mapped as the "W" drive and the backups location is just W:\backups

The .tib file is clearly there.

Anyone else run into this? is it possible the backup file size is too big?

Brian, welcome to these public User Forums.

I am not aware of any particular issues being reported in these forums for the scenario you have described.

I would recommend downloading the MVP Log Viewer tool (link in my signature) and checking what messages are shown in the log for your backup task for this problem?

Yes, you definitely need to check out the log file.

One point of clarification: how many incremental backups are made before you do another full backup (ie, how long is the backup chain)? The longer the chain the greater the risk that one of the incremental backups becoming corrupted thus rendering useless all subsequent incremental backups. I always go with the default settings out of abundant caution. I am risk averse.

Thanks, i have had 2 issues, one with the corruption you mention, and that has happened usually around the 8th incremental backup. The other  issue that is more frequent, is the issue with not being able to find the full backup .tib file.

I think I might be seeing now what the issue is with not finding the backup files. i have my "W: drive mapped to w:\backups.

I'm noticing when i open acronis that sometimes it displays my target back as w:\backups\ and at other times, it displays it as \\myQnapNasDriveG\backups\

So Acronis (or maybe my windows 10) is losing an understanding of the mapped drive to my NAS where i have my backup disks.  I have seen this weird behavior with the one that end up showing the .tib file not being able to be found. I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not. I would think as long as acronis can find the file and has a path to it, it would not care.

I'll download the log file examiner and see what it shows.

I use device name rather than mapping for backups to my NAS, avoiding possible mapping related issues. So cannot offer nay insights into what is happening here.
