Backup Fail

Thread needs solution

Hi there,

This is a long one so please bare with me;

We installed the trial of Acronis True Image 2018 a couple of months back on one of our workers PCs when she was on Windows 10 1709, and it worked perfectly. When it came to purchasing the full product we were given the option to trial Acronis True Image 2019, which we agreed to. The error that we always got with this was permissions, even tho the user is an admin on her PC, she wasn't even allowed to create a backup schedule or change any of the other options, but, when we upgraded to Windows 10 1803, this some how fixed the permissions problem, and now the problem is that there is no problem.

We created a whole new backup plan after the permissions issue was dealt with, we created a schedule and changed some of the options, chose the files that she wanted to backup and chose where to back them up to (Trascend 2TB External Hard drive), and then clicked 'back up now', and it instantaneously pauses, and when the mouse is over the icon in the middle it says 'Backup stopped will resume in *a minutes time* (depending on what time it is)', so we wait till it "resumes", and then almost immediately it fails, now I must admit the first time this happened, there was a clear error that it was the SQL Server VSS Writer, from Acronis VSS Doctor Tool and the windows event viewer, so the service was restarted and diagnostics ran again and everything came up green. So we tried the same process again; created a back up plan and schedule, chose the files and the backup device, and pressed 'Back up Now' once again pauses a millisecond after then fails, this time with no error in the activities tab of the software app, windows event viewer or the from the Doctor Tool.

I've tried everything that has been suggested for a failed backup from the Knowledge Base site, I've tried running it as myself as I have heightened permissions with being the IT technician, just in case it was a hidden permissions problem but had the same issue, we've logged the user out and back in, I've checked the hard drive with running the command line CHKDSK, I've checked for updates and nothing seems to be coming out up as an indicator as to why it will not back up.

Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution, or has anyone got a suggestions i could try?

Thank you

Amy, welcome to these User Forums.

Please confirm that you are running Windows 10 #1803 and have ATI 2019 latest build #14110 where the users are running the backup with Administrator authority?

Next, please download the MVP Log Viewer tool (see link below) and use this to obtain the logs for your problem backup task(s) - which should help throw more light on what is happening here?

Apologies for the late reply.

Yes we are running Windows 10 1803, ATI 2019 1410 and as administrator everytime we wish to back up.

Thank you, I shall do this and reply with my findings.

Kind Regards

Hi Amy,

I believe your problem is that you are using the wrong product for the purpose you have.  True Image is not designed to work with SQL: database.  Acronis does offer a backup solution that will work with SQL and other small-medium sized business applications.  That product is Aconis Backup.  I recommend that you Trial that product for your purpose.

The link below describes the differences in products.
