Backup to a SD card with two partitions, one encrypted (unlocked) and the other one isn't

Thread needs solution

Dear All,

since a couple of days the following scenario doesn't work anymore:

Backup the entire PC from the main drive C: (bitlocker encrypted and automatically unlocked) to a partition of an SD card E which is not encrypted. The same SD has another partition G: which is encrypted (bitlocker encrypted and automatically unlocked)

Both drives and all partitions are accessible in Windows Explorer.

Problem / Error: "Cannot open a backup on an encrypted volume. Unlock the volume or turn off Bitlocker, and then try it again."

Remarks:

The partition to which I am trying to create the Backup to is not encrypted but the second partition on the same SD-card. If I switch off Bitlocker from this partition, the backup runs smoothly.

I tried both methods to fully encrypt partition G and to encrypt just the existing data on that partition but the error message is the same.

Any ideas where this problem comes from? I would like to continue having one partition encrypted. Reason is that the SD card permanently stays in my notebook. In case it gets in the wrong hands I would like to have the data on this partition secured. The backup on the other unencrypted partition is password protected. This way all my data would be safe.

Thank you in advance for any help!

PS: I am running the latest version of ATI 2019
