Clone SSD to SSD and asking for reboot?

Thread needs solution

I'm cloning my notebook's SSD(500GB) to a larger SSD(1TB) drive and when I run the tool it's asking to restart my PC. When I originally cloned from OEM HD(750GB) to SSD(500GB) I don't remember asking for the reboot. I'm doing the cloning on an external USB BlacX-duet..

thanks

If the target of the clone already has a Windows system on it, TI will ask for a reboot. To avoid the reboot request, just delete all partitions from the target drive first.

Can you see your new drive in Windows Explorer?  If not then the drive is not formatted and in this case may be triggering the reboot required.

If you do not see the drive in Explorer you should see it in Dsk Management.  In Disk Management it probably shows as Unallocated.  If it does click on the disk to select it, then right click and choose Create Simple Volume.  Follow the default prompts.  After the drive is formatted you should see it in Explorer.  It should also be ready to accept the clone.

I just did an online clone from my old 250GB Samsung 950 Pro to a new 512GB GPX SX8200 PRO. Needed to first initialize as GPT, quick format as NTFS and assign a drive letter.

After that, just kicked off the online clone and it was done in a little over 3 minutes. No reboot required and resulted in a successful clone with no need to extend capacity or anything else. I was really impressed with the speed and outcome as I rarely clone and usually opt to backup and restore.

Yes, with fast SSD such as M.2 NVMe cloning is spectacularly fast. I did a clone recently (used MVP Recovery media) of an 250gig 960 EVO to a 970 EVO 500gig and it only took a couple of minutes - most impressive.
