Cloning errors - Error 0x101f6 and Error 0x13c0005 on HP Compaq Elite

Thread needs solution

HP Compaq Elite SFF PC / Windows 7.

The original HDD had 3 partitions as configured by HP.

SYSTEM

OS(C:)

HP_RECOVERY(D:)

During cloning of the original drive (1TB capacity but only 400MB content) to a Crucial MX500, using

Acronis True Image 2019

the message "Disk cloning has failed. See log for details." appeared.

I downloaded the program ReadLogFileNewGen.exe from the Acronis website to open the log, which showed.

In other words, the third partition HP_RECOVERY(D:) would not allow itself to be cloned.

The HP computer came loaded with a program called HP Recovery Manager (find it by Start Search for Programs and Files and enter "Recovery Manager"). Run Recovery Manager. The last option in the R hand menu column will

"Remove Recovery Partition"

Once I removed HP_RECOVERY(D:) and rebooted my system, the cloning successfully completed.

I switched the new drive for the old drive and booted right up. Everything worked as before except sound. Somehow, the sound drivers had become corrupted during the cloning. An easy fix was provided at

George, welcome to these public User Forums.

Thank you for sharing your experience with cloning and good to read that you have this all working after resolving the sound issues.

The format/resize error is one which gets reported fairly often when going from a larger drive to one much smaller, and it may also be a factory recovery partition that gives problems.  Removing such partitions is a good solution as it is unlikely most users would want to revert back to the version of the OS that came supplied from the factory, especially if that was an older version of Windows.
