Create Virtual Machine, VM, from VHD created from tib

Thread needs solution

I want to create a Hyper-V VM from ATI 2019 backup.

Help tells me to check "Start virtual machine after completion" when creating a VHD from a backup with ATI 2019 but I don't have such an option.

KB https://kb.acronis.com/content/59986 describes simply converting the tib to a vhd and then making it the boot disk of a Hyper-V VM.

I'm using the trial right now perhaps the feature is not available but if so I'd expect a message to that effect.

Thanks, I hope this isn't redundant I have searched and it seems cpabailities change with ATI version so I focused on 2018 and 2019.

Richard, welcome to these User Forums.

I haven't used any of the virtual machine / VHD(x) features in ATI as have had no need coupled with having older hardware.

See the following KB which may help you.

KB 60209: Acronis True Image 2018: configuring Windows native boot from VHD/VHDX files created by "Convert to VHD" feature

Any information related to 2018 will apply equally to 2019 of ATI

Richard,

I have used the Convert to VHD feature of True Image and it works well.  I store VHD conversions in a special folder on my system and I can select what I want to use in a configured Hyper V machine.  All my systems are UEFI boot so I had to specify a Gen 2 machine during configuration (hint).

I find this helpful in determining if a given backup once recovered will boot.  I think this is a close as you can get to an actual recovery of a full disk image.

Enchantech,

Thanks for the "(hint)" that did it - use Gen 2. Booting the VM covers all the tests I wanted to do so it's time to throw away WHSv1. Well it was time years ago but it kept working.

Thanks again.
