deleting old backups

Thread needs solution

I have many older backups and would like to know how it works if I delete some of them to free up some space on my backup external drive?

Thanks for any feedback

Arnold, welcome to these public User Forums.

What version of Acronis True Image (ATI) do you have?

Do you still have the "DESKTOP-4HR4E47" backup task shown in the ATI GUI panel?

If the task is shown in the GUI then you should use the Automatic cleanup option provided on the task Options > Backup scheme page, where you can use an option such as "Store no more than X recent backup chains" to keep only that number of backup version chains.

A backup version chain = 1 x Full plus 5 Incremental files with the same sequence number, i.e.
DESKTOP-4HR4E47_full_b1_s1_v1.tib
DESKTOP-4HR4E47_inc_b1_s2_v1.tib
DESKTOP-4HR4E47_inc_b1_s3_v1.tib
DESKTOP-4HR4E47_inc_b1_s4_v1.tib
DESKTOP-4HR4E47_inc_b1_s5_v1.tib
DESKTOP-4HR4E47_inc_b1_s6_v1.tib
is one version chain for sequence b1.

If you have ATI 2019 then there is a new task menu option for "Clean up versions" which would allow you to select whole chains to delete.  The above automatic cleanup is still recommended for all versions of ATI as this removes the need for manual cleaning of old files.
