Disk cloning prevented by unrelated bitlocked disk

Thread needs solution

I'm trying to clone Disk 1 to Disk 3, but Disk 2 (the only one with bitlocker turned on) prevents this. Why is this? Why is a completely unrelated disk preventing the disk cloning from happening? And is there a way around it? I get the following message: "Unable to continue the operation that requires a reboot, because volume encrypted with BitLocker has been detected. Please use Acronis bootable media."

Tenshi, welcome to these public User Forums.

It is not recommended to clone disks from within Windows when a reboot will be required as this in itself can lead to other complications.

The reason why your Disk 2 with BitLocker is an issue in this scenario is that when the computer is restarted, it will use a temporary Linux environment to launch the ATI clone operation but this OS has no support for BitLocker and will not know how to deal with the unknown drive it will encounter due to encryption.

I would recommend creating the ATI 2019 WinPE Rescue Media using the Simple method for the Acronis Rescue Media, then doing the Clone offline from Windows using that boot media.

The other alternative would be to temporarily disconnect your Disk 2 drive while doing the clone (after shutting down the computer first to disconnect the cable or remove the drive).
