Drive C empty in TIB file

Thread needs solution

Yesterday I discovered that almost all of the images in my SnagIt Library were missing (C:\Users\jgt\AppData\Local\TechSmith\SnagIt\DataStore).  Using the Windows File Manager I explored numerous TIB files and found one dated 09/08 that had a full copy of the Library as of that date. I then restored the DataStore folder using that TIB file. I also looked at TIB files with more recent dates but now, in the Windows File Manager when I attempt to open the C drive it reports the folder empty. I then checked TIB files that previously I could see the contents of the C drive and everything I check it shows the folder empty when I attempt to open the C drive in the TIB file.

Update - I rebooted my desktop now I can drill down into the TIB file and the C drive folder displays "more" correctly. I'm looking at some of my "full" backups and I don't see me in the C:\User folder.

I just ran a new FULL BU and I do see myself in the C:\User folder of the TIB file.

OK I'm confused again.

Another Update

It really helps if you are looking at the correct TIB file. :) I have several huge drives on my desktop, all of which are shared with full permissions and all of my systems backup to these drives to a folder unique for each system. I accidentally clicked on the wrong folder. Darn!!!!

BTW I was able to recover all of the DataStore (SnagIt) images except for the month of Sept. My assumption is that the windows update messed up. I have no way of proving this but I gotta point the finger at somebody. :)

OK the problem just recurred. I was drilling down into an INC backup and got to some point and a folder opened as empty. Now when I open any TIB file and try to open the "C" drive folder it states it is empty.

I rebooted the PC, I still have the problem. I was thinking that the INC TIB file was the issue, now I'm not sure why the folder appears to be empty but really is not.

John, please try deleting all the files in C:\Users\[your_username]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Database which is the TibMounter cache location - this is known to clear this type of issue!

I just checked C:\Users\jgt\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\ProgramData and the only thing in the folder is a folder "FreeRIP MP3 Converter"

I did find an Acronis DB at C:\ProgramData\Acronis\Home\Database -it has only one DB file in it.

Also I found "C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Database" which has a LOT of files in it.

Are either of these what you are referring to?

BTW I just had the issue again as I was drilling down in a INC TIB file.

John, please do not touch the ProgramData database folders - it is only the C:\Users\[your_username]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Database which was associated with the TibMounter cache store but this may have changed with ATI 2019?

Steve, thanks I will NOT mess with them. I got enough problems.... :)

John, for reference, this was the source post for the tib mounter cache suggestion.. - this was good for both ATI 2016 & 2017 but I haven't needed to do this with 2018 or 2019, thus it was a long shot!

FYI on the issue, I'm currently using ATI 2019 but I did NOT perform a clean install. I'm seeing this issue on my desktop (have not really tried it on my laptops). All my systems are running Win10 x64. When I see the issue it is not immediate, I was viewing several TIB files (I did not count how many I had viewed, I viewed both FULL and INC TIB files) via the Windows File Manager application, so far the only way I know to recover is to reboot my desktop.

John, I have just spend 10-15 minutes opening a range of .tib backup files via Explorer and have not seen any being reported or shown as being empty (though I found some that seem to have been corrupted for reasons unknown - fortunately nothing important!).  The only issue seen was an occasional 'Volume 1 missing' error which was resolved by selecting the first _full_ file for the backup chain.  These were all Files & Folders backups that gave this error and which were also slower to open than their Disks & Partitions cousins.

I did do a clean install of ATI 2019 on the computer being used for this testing after encountering some other problems not related to this one.

Steve, a couple of hours ago I used Revo Uninstaller to remove Acronis Universal Installer and ATI from my desktop. Gee Wiz there were over 7600 ATI files, like WOW and there was a HUGH amount of registry entries as well. I've never seen another application with this many files and registrary entries. I'm not saying this was bad just that it was a LOT more than I expected. I used Revo because it always seems to do a better job of cleaning the registry and removing files & folders.

After the uninstall I rebooted my PC and then reinstalled ATI 2019. When I opened ATI I was VERY surprised to see it look just like it did before I uninstalled it. Is this correct? I'm thinking that it really did not get uninstalled.

Using the search tool I searched for Acronis and found a bunch of files with OLD dates. Now I'm beginning to question the uninstall.

I also opened a BUNCH of TIB files (both Full and Inc) and never saw the "empty" thus at this time I cannot reproduce the error. "Possibly" the clean install is the answer.

John, the uninstaller does not remove everything; you need to use the clean-up utility to get rid of everything.
