Error while opening file

Thread needs solution

My Acronis cloud backup recently started getting the following error "error while opening file". I have the exact same backup to a local NAS device. The NAS device back up works fine, but the cloud backup errors out. The cloud back was working for months, then last week started with this error. I deleted the cloud back and tried again, but no luck.

Any ideas?

Tom, welcome to these public User Forums.

The error when opening file can be for a file in the cloud or a file on your source drive, so we would need to see the backup log file for this task to understand which it is?

Please download the MVP Log Viewer tool and use this to check the log file contents for any error messages.

Thanks Steve... I downloaded the log viewer and this is the error log..

Tom, thanks for the log file but this looks to be the default 'Short' view in the MVP Log Viewer, so can you try changing the view to 'Log View: Regular' and see if there any more detailed messages shown (other than just the expanded timestamp data) - these would normally be shown with | in the left margins for the detailed entry lines.

Thanks for the guidance... Here's the full log file..

Tom, the error looks to be focused on OneDrive for which there are known issues if you have got OneDrive 'Files on Demand' enabled.

path: \\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy127\OneDrive\Documents\Tom Romeo_files\filelist.xml

The path above is where Acronis is using the Windows VSS (Volume ShadowCopy Service) to make a snapshot of the source files / folders.

Acronis cannot work with the way that OneDrive has implemented files on demand as documented in KB 61362: Acronis True Image: Error when backing up OneDrive folder - this also applies to ATI 2019.

Thanks Steve... I'll add that to the exclusion list and see if that does the trick.

Tom, that is great! Thanks for the update and glad the issue is resolved for you.
