Failed to open backup...

Thread needs solution

Yesterday I installed ATI 2019 and started by doing a full backup of Drive C: creating a large, single tib file.  That backup operation went OK but I thought I would check it and Right-Clicked that tib file and selected the Validate option.

It responded by telling me it "Failed to open backup...(etc).  Make sure the backup location is accessible and contains all versions of the backup."

Well it IS accessible - I just created the file there!  It DOES contain all versions of the backup because there is only ONE file in that backup!

The message suggested I could "click Ignore to create a new backup version" but there is no Ignore option - it gives only "Retry" or "Cancel".

Of course an attempt to Recover something from that backup results in the same error - "Failed to open...".

Is this a known problem?   What have I missed?  And How should I be doing the backup so it works?

It is possible that something went astray when you installed ATI 2019. When experiencing problems with ATI a common solution is to download the full installer (not the web version) from your Acronis Account, then Run As Administrator, and when prompted select Repair rather than Uninstall.

It is also possible that if you immediately tried to access the file after the backup task completed that all data had not been written to disk yet and therefore the file was not accessible.  When writing large files you may have to wait a bit for access to the backup file after the application says it is completed.

This can be caused by write caching being enabled on the disk which may be a default setting on your PC.

I'm having the exact same issue, however it's happening to all 4 computers I backup.  All started having problem on same day.  Backing up to perfectly function network drive.  In fact, I can even create a new backup to the same drive but the existing backups are not accessible through Acronis.  This is a very frustrating problem.  I've opened a support case but have not had any response yet.  Very concerning going forward and trusting Acronis to my backups.  Hoping someone has a real solution.  Have been using Acronis for years and this is a first but good backups are crucial to me and I have to have confidence the product is capable of protecting my data.
