HDD Clone to Smaller SSD

Thread needs solution

I plan on cloning my 6 TB HDD, through the use of a full disk backup, to a new HDD for a system I am building.  Since I am only using around 1.5 TB on this disk, I plan on moving the majority of the data, to another disk leaving me only several hundred GBs actually being used.  I then plan on creating a backup image of the HDD, and restoring it to a 1 TB SSD, I have only ever restored my images to a larger disk.

The initial restoration of the image will be to a larger disk traditional HDD, I am doing that, to avoid touching the original data.  Will True Image allow me to do this?  I normally click the Backup sector-by-sector option, will that cause me any problems?

Migrating to a smaller disk drive (HDD or SSD) using Backup and Recovery should be fine provided that the size of data involved will be accommodated on the new drive.

I would recommend against using sector-by-sector mode for the backup, especially if your source drive is 6TB.  This mode shouldn't be needed and would result in a much larger backup image size which may exceed the size of your new 1TB drive.

If I already have a backup schema that already is sector by sector, and I change it to not be a sector by sector backup, does Acronis update the next differential backup as appropriate or should I start a fresh backup?

Personally, I would recommend starting a fresh backup rather than continuing one that has been using sector-by-sector.  This should also give you a good indication of the size difference for the two backup methods (with sbs & without).

Definitely create a new backup task.
