How can I make 2 backups (1 per week) and have them overwrite the one from 2 weeks ago?

Thread needs solution

I have 2019 build 17750 and I am running it on windows 10. I have a backup scheme for certain files and folders, and there is enough room on my backup drive for 2 backups. So I want to do a backup. Next week do a new one. Then the following week(s) have the latest on, overwrite the older (2 weeks ago) backup.

I have tried to figure this out, and I keep getting full backup, then many incremental files until the drives full.

thanks

Don, yes, you should be able to set up your backup task so that you are able to keep a set number of backup images and automatically remove older backup files as needed.

The starting point is to choose the appropriate Backup Scheme where you have a choice of making only Full backups, else making Incremental or Differential backups.

If you choose to use an Incremental or Differential backup scheme, then you need to understand that this means the task will create an initial Full backup followed by the chosen number of smaller incremental or differential backup files before any further repeat of the same is actioned. This is then a 'version chain' that comprises of the related Full plus Incr or Diff files.

To have Acronis remove unwanted older backup files (or version chains), you need to configure the Automatic Cleanup rules for this.

The simplest / easiest automatic cleanup rule to use is:

Store no more than 2 recent versions / version chains.

The way automatic cleanup works, nothing is removed / deleted until after the defined number (2) has been exceeded by the successful creation of a new Full backup for a new version or version chain.  This means that your destination storage drive needs to be able to store both the number of files to be kept plus one additional Full backup file!
