TI cannot see backup on external hard disk

Thread needs solution

I managed to make a full backup to an external USB drive before my old PC died. Having reinstalled TI to my new PC it indicates "no date to recover". The drive letter is the same. I am using Win 11 on the new PC and Win10 on the old. How can I enable TI to find the data to recover?

David, welcome to these public User Forums.

What version of Acronis have you reinstalled on your new PC?  Is it ATI 2019 per this forum or is it a different version?

The Acronis GUI will only show data to recover if you have added your old backup image in the application by using the option to 'Add existing backup' that is found hidden behind the caret 'v' to the right of the normal + Add backup option.

The alternative option is to simply double-click on the backup file in Explorer and Acronis should open it and let you explore the contents / use Copy & Paste controls.

See KB 61620: Acronis True Image 2019: how to restore files from a backup (Windows) for different methods of trying to recover your personal files from your available backup files.

I now discover that despite going through the entire lengthy backup procedure (there were some bad sectors which I ignored) on my old computer there is actually nothing in the backup folder. Fortunately I did not need it but this is rather disturbing.

David, if the backup completed 'successfully' even with bad sectors being ignored, then there should be a log for that operation if the backup was done from within Windows, and the log should give more information about what files were created or deleted etc.

Download a copy of the MVP Assistant log viewer tool and use this to look at the logs to see if they show any issues during the operation process?

The latest version of the new log viewer tool is at the link below.
MVP Assistant update for Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office (Version 1.1.6.0)

If you have Disks & Partitions backups created on ATI 2020 or later using .tibx files, then look in the Backup Worker logs.

If you have Files & Folders backups using .tib files (or Disk backups from earlier versions using .tib files) or using Cloning then look in the Demon logs.

Other logs are shown by the MVP Assistant under the 'Active Logs' heading of the Log Viewer page of the Assistant.

The Schedule2 log contains information related to scheduled task but is one of the more difficult logs to read / work through.

The log files should be zipped to preserve their original file names if sharing in the forums and would need to be less than 3MB in size, otherwise you would need to share the zip file via a Cloud share service such as OneDrive, Dropbox etc.
