2020 making TIB files, but need to be renamed to TIBX

Thread solved

I have the version of ATI 2020 build 20600, I make a boot disk from Tools and I made a test, backing up one of my disks using the boot CD.

At the backup option, I set the name of the file .TIB (because I saw that is possible .TIB or .TIBX, and I want for the moment to make backup NOT in the latest TIBX format).

After succesfull backup, I tried to open the .TIB archive from my pc. I received this:

If I rename .TIB to .TIBX, the archive is opening ok. But in this case it means that the backup software is making the job only in the new TIBX format, even if we want to make it in the previous TIB format?

Disk level backups are now all done in the .tibx format. File and Folder backups still use .tib. The only way you get a choice is to start with a disk backup on a prior version of ATI and then continue with that backup task. Anything new created in ATI 2020 will be .tibx format.

Changing the file type works consistent with all windows applications... it only changes the name. Acronis later expects the name to have the proper file type.

ATI 2020 creates all Disk & Partitions backups as .tibx files using the new version 3 file format and from your results when using the 2020 rescue media CD, this remains the case even if you give the file a .tib extension.

It will still create Files & Folders backups as .tib files because that type of backup task has not yet been migrated to using the new file format.

Also, if you are continuing a Disk backup task created by ATI 2019, this will continue to use the older .tib file format for that task too.

You would need to use the ATI 2019 rescue media if you want to create a Disk .tib backup.

Thank you for your answers, now is clear!

It is strange why Acronis it allows to save the job in .TIB file extension even in case we want to make a disk backup..

Yarnea Srl, it sounds like a bug.  In the beta, it was reported that the rescue media only searched for .tib files by default so people were not finding their newly created .tibx files.  The work-a-round was that they had to use the drop-down to change the search from .tib to .tibx.

That now seems to be fixed, but it looks like this is bug, created from that change in behavior.  Please submit feedback in the app though so it gets registered with the developers!

Hello Everyone,

thank you for raising this topic - our development team confirmed that this behavior should be fixed and created an internal task for fixing (TI-175367 New Local Disk backup can be created as TIB by editing its name under Media, that leads to recovery error)

Thanks Ekaterina.
