Acronis TA 2020 Update Stalls

Thread solved

According to ATI 2020 I have build 24.6.25700 installed. I launched the program today and was notified an update was available. Downloaded the update, told it to install, but the install froze, I ended up having to force quit the program.

The version I have still launches. But If I tell the update to install I get a message, update failed because previous update still in progress. I see no way to re initiate that update.

So then I opted to uninstall ATI 2020 and reinstall if from scratch, but when I try to Uninstall it via Windows, the Acronis Uninstaller launches and I get a message that uninstalling has fails because an update is all ready in progress.

And if I download the latest build of ATI 2020 from Acronis that will not install either.

So what needs to be done? Is there a space where the Acronis Update sits where it can be removed?

Is there a tool that can correct this issue?

Thanks-

Dave P

Dave, this is a case where you will probably need to do several things:

First, if ATI 2020 will still launch, then go to the Settings page and use the option at the bottom of that panel to export your backup task configuration settings to a zip file!

If ATI 2020 doesn't launch, then make a copy of the C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Scripts folder where the script files for your backup tasks are stored!

Next, do a restart of Windows to see if this will resolve any incomplete install issues.

Now, download the Acronis Cleanup tool from the link in my signature, and run this from an Administrator account just using the tool without touching or changing the Windows Registry.

Restart the PC again to complete the cleanup actions.

At this point, you should be able to install the latest ATI 2020 build 38530 without needing to upgrade from any earlier build.

Note: you should create the C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Scripts folder first before doing the new install then copy the script files to this else you will need to launch the new copy of ATI 2020 and turn off Acronis Active Protection before you can copy those files back.

First, if ATI 2020 will still launch, then go to the Settings page and use the option at the bottom of that panel to export your backup task configuration settings to a zip file!

Steve,

I did the above, reran the update installer and this time it completed! Thank you! :)

This version of TI is still turning about 250GB of data into an 850GB image file. :\

And now that I see Acronis has shifted to a subscription model, something I do not like as software companies think that by renting instead of selling their programs, they can make more $$, I will be weighing my alternatives as to whether to stick with TI or go to something more basic and less expensive.

Dave, glad that you got the new update installed.

The change by Acronis to forcing users to a subscription model is something that lots of users, including myself, will reject!  I will not be paying for a subscription, especially for features that I do not want and will not use, i.e. Cyber Protection now dominating ATI 2021.  I have already bought a 4 PC perpetual license for Macrium Reflect Home in their Easter Sale currently on and am pleased with the performance of this without all the extra bloat that Acronis are packing in!

Hello Dave,

I've passed your feedback to the product management, thank you! Please note that this change only applies to the sale of new perpetual licenses. Existing licenses will continue to work and you can continue using your Acronis product. These products continue to be eligible for support (according to Products Support Lifecycle) and can be upgraded from the in-product store.

Hi Steve,

does Macrium offer a feature like Acronis Universal Restore?

Regards, Lutz

Lutz, according to their main product page, the answer would be yes!

See webpage: Re-deploying Windows to new hardware using Macrium ReDeploy

Macrium ReDeploy is now included in all paid editions of Macrium Reflect. This excludes the Free Edition and 30 day trials.
