Active Protection Turned Off
Hi I have just purchased and installed a copy of True Image 2020 and I'm getting notifications that Active Protection has been turned off (see screen shot) when I haven't done anything. Is this normal or is it something that I should be concerned about? Dave

Hi Steve
Thanks for the response. Active Protection is turned on. I haven't used the computer today, but the True Image 2020 notifications are showing that it was turned off at 11:48 and 13:57.

Dave, if AAP is turned on then the notifications may be eroneous or from a different day! This has been reported to Acronis as a defect previously!
Move your mouse over the right end of these notifications and you should see an X show, click on this and remove the notices (repeat for all shown) then keep an eye to see if any new ones get shown?

Thanks Steve
I have deleted all the notifications and will wait and see if any new ones appear.

Hi Steve
I am still getting notifications (see below). Active Protection is on, but there are two new notifications since I deleted them all - one yesterday and one today. I guess I'm going to have to treat these as erroneous as Active Protection is on, but there are no corresponding notifications to say that it was turned on again.
Thanks for your help.

Dave

David, if AAP shows as being turned on in the main ATI GUI page, then the tray notification looks to be in error unless there was a short period of time when the AAP background service was not able to start running?
See KB 60452: Acronis Active Protection: Frequently Asked Questions - for information on AAP but I do not see anything that matches your issue here!
Another possibility might be if your security software (antivirus etc) may be blocking AAP from starting immediately?
See the following KB documents related to this aspect:
KB 46430: Acronis Software: Making Acronis Products Compatible with Antivirus Software
Beyond the above, if you are still seeing the incorrect status notifications, I would suggest opening a Support case direct with Acronis to let them investigate further with you.

Many thanks for your help. I will raise a Support Case with Acronis.
Thanks again.

I am seeing this problem too but no indication about why it was turned off. Is there a way to find out why it was turned off? The message is informative but not actionable except to go make sure that it is on. There is nothing that I can find that helps me understand why it happens. When I click on the message from the tray notification popup, it opens the ATI 2020 application at the Active protection tab. When the application/tab opens, it shows that the active protection is turned off briefly and then it almost immediately toggles to turned on. I can't tell whether it was actually off or it just shows off at at start up even if it was actually on.
Didn't a earlier version display a tray icon that indicated the status of active protection? It would be nice to be able to have a red or yellow tray icon when it is turned off and green when it is on. Now, it just appears as a gray empty icon. At a minimum, it should popup a status message when you hover the mouse over it as other tray icons do.

Nathan, welcome to these public User Forums.
If AAP is actually turning on but initially shows as being off when you open the ATI GUI to the main AAP page, then this is just a delay while the GUI updates after checking the status of the associated process and service.
The new system tray icon has to be clicked to see any information it holds and should also show if AAP has previously been turned off or on, as well as results of backup tasks etc.

I note that there has been no activity on this thread, just wondering if there will be a resolution as I have been having the same problem.
Protection is on when checked but regularly gets turned off as noted in the tray icon.
The icon itself always looks like it is off as its grey when I expect it to be green for good.
At 00.25 the report is Backup has been created succesfully then at 03:11 the last report stated Protection was turned Off.
According to the entries in the popup yesterday Active Protection was turned off three times without a backup being done or scheduled.
Next program update may fix this but there is no indication when this be. TI 2020 is fully up to date as is the pc Windows 10 workstation Pro. The pc is on 24-seven so it is not a power/standby/powere reduction process that is causing it.

Mike, as far as I am aware the new ATI 2020 status bar icon / notification panel never changes colour to reflect the status of AAP, and will always be shown in Black / Grey and White.
If AAP is being turned off on your system without any user interaction such as using the controls provided on the AAP page in the main ATI GUI, then this would suggest that something else is at play here, i.e. perhaps any other security software you have installed etc?
I would recommend that you open a Support Case direct with Acronis if you want this to be investigated in further detail. I am not aware of any plans by Acronis to introduce any fixes or changes for AAP in any future update builds and am not seeing this issue being reported by other users?

Having uninstalled and reinstalled many times, and had an Acronis guy look at the problem some time ago, I will raise a Support Case to see if they can sort it out.
Intriguing as this pc never turns off - its running 24/7

Keep the faith - a resolution is in the works - Good results so far

Mike Steddy, what resolution is it? I've just noticed this as well. Who knows how long this has been happening. Same exact issue as original poster. I have no trust at all in this software now. Great.

Jeanine, after you have seen the notification about AAP being turned off, have you opened the main ATI GUI and checked the status shown there?
I too randomly see these notifications but whenever I check the GUI, all if fine and AAP is not turned off, so they are 'fake news' as a certain person likes to say too often!
I have been participating in the ATI 2021 Beta testing and have not seen the same false notifications in that version, so would suspect that Acronis have fixed the cause but just not released a fix for 2020.

Hi,
I am getting many random notifications "Active Protection was turned off" with TI2020.
Opening TI shows Active Protection ON, but this may be invoked by opening the application. These notifications are not associated with any action performed on the system.
I had a ransomware encrypt all my disks with Active Protection not reacting. Was it because it had randomly turned off? Not sure. One thing is sure: I have lost trust is this as despite Active Protection, especially that I have done hundreds of installation for clients with the assurance that this would protect from ransomware as claimed.
Acronis would not even open a case about this.
Any idea about this issue, whether it can be fixed, and whether this product can really deliver when it clearly failed?
