I have just updated to Acronis 2020_20770 and have noticed a change in the names of the backup files. I have 3 computers all on the same platforms. On one of them the name of the backup files is: Samsung SSD 840 EVO 500GB_full_s1_b1_v1.tib. The second is: Samsung SSD 840 PRO Series_full_b47_s1_v1.tib. The third one is: Samsung SSD 840 EVO 500 GB EXTOBB6Q.tibx. The one that has me the most concerned is "EXTOBB6Q.tibx", most the items in the names seem pretty straight forward to me. The drives are all Samsung SSD 840 models. The 500 GB is the size of the drives. The "_full_b47_s1_v1" is the backup ID. Can they all be restored using the recovery software? What is the "EXTOBB6Q.tibx" mean?

Hi!
Thank you for your posting! Please refer to the article Acronis True Image 2020: tibx backups in local destinations, which gives more information on the new archive format used for the disk-level backups in Acronis True Image 2020.

+  Limitations of tibx backups

The new filenaming system is a pain!  My computer has True Image 2020 but seems to be still using the old file naming.  I can tell which files are full backups and which are increments and i can see the size of the backups.

My wife is also using 2020 but her backup filenames don't tell you what the backup is or how big it is.  Her HDD failed and the latest backups failed to recover.  She has been backing up and thinking that all is well.  With the old filenames, I used to be able to tell if the backups were working.

Is there any way to go back to the old filenames?

AllanG, welcome to these public User Forums.

The new backup names only apply to .tibx files created for Disks & Partitions backups - any Files & Folders backups still use the older .tib files and their naming formats.

It is possible to force ATI 2020 / 2021 to use the older .tib files and naming convention but this has to be done for a new backup task and before that task is run for the first time.

See forum topic: How to create a Disk backup as .tib (not .tibx) which will create a new backup task using the older .tib format in the Windows ATI 2020 or 2021 GUI.
