Backup shows wrong drive letter untill it completes

Thread needs solution

Originally set from C: to J:. so for new backup to external USB drive H:, configure backup destination to H: which is accepted, start backup and it shows destination as J: whilst backing up to H: once complete the destination changes to H:, this is very confusing and concerning, not sure if a bug or my system settings. Anyone else noticed this?

Andy, welcome to these public User Forums.

Are you saying that this backup task was created with J: as the Destination originally, but you have now changed the Destination to be H: ?

Do you still have a J: drive and are there files from this task stored on it?

If yes, then this is probably the reason for this strange behaviour!

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the response.

Apologies for the extremely late reply, my mistake as I didn't set follow so never got an indication of a response.

Its been so long I don't even remember. But I think you are correct I use external USB HDD for backups and some times windows 10 in its wisdom assigns automatically different letters to the drives depending on how many are connected and the sequence of connecting them.

If Acronis backup relies on the drive letter alone then this is confusing to the user, I think it should have the option of the volume label being taken into account as an indicator as to the HDD to which the backup resides?

Andy, not to worry about the late response!  Acronis can normally handle changes of the backup destination drive letter provided that the partition GUID on that drive remains unchanged, as it uses the latter to recognise that the correct drive is connected rather than the drive letter.

Thanks very much Steve for the clarification!

My Issue now with Acronis is the cyber protection functionality which i don't use and despite disabling it there are 5 or more processes using CPU, Memory and SSD resources, and cannot terminate them, my system has been much slower than usual, this has been noted with other users, hope they can resolve soon as I am seriously considering to uninstall Acronis and re-install whenever i want to create a backup, hope they just focus on backup, universal restore etc. rather than compete with Norton et all.
