BSOD booting from original drive after creating a clone

Thread needs solution

I create a clone about once a month to have in reserve in case of a drive failure. Never previously had any problem.  This time after a "successful" clone.  I shut down, disconnected the cloned drive and rebooted - same process I always use.  Got the BSofDeath.  Windows collected info, rebooted, and tried an auto repair, but I kept getting the BSoD each time.  I tried reconnecting the clone, switching cables etc.  Finally got it to reboot disconnecting the original drive and booting from the clone.

Ken, welcome to these public User Forums.

Sorry but I have never been a fan of cloning and avoid using it except in very rare scenarios.

Cloning shouldn't cause any changes to the source drive but it is possible that this could happen and give the sort of symptoms you have encountered?

I prefer to make Backups of my drives rather than using cloning - this has the advantage that these can be scheduled to run regularly and to different destinations (via having multiple tasks) plus that multiple backups can be stored on my target backup drives rather than a single clone.

I agree with Steve Smith. Backup and recovery (the latter using recovery media) is the most reliable way to go.
