Clone failed and destroyed brand new Crucial 500gb SSD

Thread needs solution

So I purchased a brand new 500gb Crucial SSD today and installed it in my laptop, when it started up the disk was not initilised, being much bigger than my current C: drive I wanted to clone it. having been directed to the acronis website I was prompted to download version - AcronisTrueImageMicron_21500, this allowed me to clone the new drive, however when it finished there were many errors and I had to restart the laptop, once I did this I could no longer see the new drive and it is listed as non-existant in disk manager.

I am so bloody annoyed with this software, I have wasted my time and money on something I can now longer use!!!

Peter, please see KB 2201: Support for OEM Versions of Acronis Products which applies to your OEM version of ATI from Micron.

Next see KB 56634: Acronis True Image: how to clone a disk - and review the step by step guide given there.

Note: the first section of the above KB document directs laptop users to KB 2931: How to clone a laptop hard drive - and has the following paragraph:

It is recommended to put the new drive in the laptop first, and connect the old drive via USB. Otherwise you will may not be able to boot from the new cloned drive, as Acronis True Image will apply a bootability fix to the new disk and adjust the boot settings of the target drive to boot from USB. If the new disk is inside the laptop, the boot settings will be automatically adjusted to boot from internal disk. As such, hard disk bays cannot be used for target disks. For example, if you have a target hard disk (i.e. the new disk to which you clone, and from which you intend to boot the machine) in a bay, and not physically inside the laptop, the target hard disk will be unbootable after the cloning.

Your new drive should still be fine albeit is not shown due to rebooting with the drive still connected after the clone which should not be done!

Cloning expects that the new cloned drive will immediately be used to replace the existing drive and it has the same drive signature hence ATI hides the drive to prevent a signature clash.

You could try removing the original drive in the laptop and replacing it by the cloned drive then see if it will boot.  If not, then you need to follow the recommended procedure as referenced above for cloning a laptop drive using the Acronis Rescue Media to boot the laptop and with the original drive connected externally.
