Destination size for differential with source 12TB

Thread needs solution

I have read many hours today but I am not confident I know how to calculate destination drive size for differential backup. I am new to Acronis and I have spent time reading. I hope you will be kind and helpful.

I have chosen diff for reliability.

I will be backing up large movie files. I will not be backing up MS Word files. :)

When a new full backup is needed based on my parms will the new full backup be created before my previous full backup and diff file is deleted?  My source will be 12 TB and I hope I do not need destination space for 2 full backups and my diff file.

I would like to create a new full back up every week for better reliability but 12TB X 52 weeks is a lot of I/O. My current source drive only contains 5.5 TB but it will grow in size.

I thank you in advance for your helpful replies.

If you set your cleanup rule that only one backup set is to be kept, then the second full backup must be completed before the prior backup set is deleted. Given the nature of the content, I would not use Acronis to create a backup; a simple file synchronisation will be sufficient; it will also be much faster. I do this with my preferred file manager, Directory Opus, which results in new files, and files with more recent date stamp or different size being copied to the backup location.

One thing to be aware of with a disk + partitions backup is that the backup looks for change disk sectors, so if the source disk is defragmented, this can result in large differential backups.

I had assumed that you planned on using disk + partitions backup but you could use Files+ Folders backup, which (if I recall correctly) uses bit rather than segment changes, which may impact on the speed.
