How does Acronis 2020 store backup files?

Thread needs solution

When I look at my backup drive I see one file "Desktop-K07...".  When I double click that file I see the individual backup "files" but I don't see any size or type for those files and they cannot be deleted.  So I am guessing 2020 stores the backup files as part of the master backup file.  In my old 2015 version I was able to delete old backup trees as necessary.  The automatic cleanup never worked for me in 2015.

I would appreciate if someone can explain the new file system and if there is a way to manually delete any of the backup chains.

Stephen,

KB 63444: Acronis True Image 2020: tibx backups in local destinations

KB 63613: Acronis True Image: local backups are not available for recovery if "metadata" file appears in the backup destination - if you see metadata file(s).

It is very important that users do not delete .tibx files manually outside of the tools provided by Acronis in the ATI GUI, as doing so can cause the whole backup chain to be corrupted due to new dependencies and metadata.

Acronis introduced a new 'Clean up versions tool' in ATI 2019 and later versions which should be used to manage any unwanted backup files!
