Need help on doing first time recovery

Thread needs solution

I tried to upgrade my dell PC to win 11 but failed and will not boot to screen now. I have backup stored on WD cloud drive, and need help to recover. I can copy backup to USB or USB hard drive. Also have made boot/recovery disc

How should I do this recovery?

thanks

Larry, some questions that need to be asked first here:

Have you created the Acronis bootable rescue media for your Dell PC?  This is needed in order to do the recovery of your Windows 10 backup image.

What BIOS boot mode does your Dell PC use to boot into Windows?  Is it a UEFI boot or is it an older PC using Legacy boot mode?

If the PC won't boot then you may need to look at the BIOS settings to check the boot mode:

If you see Windows Boot Manager as the boot option, then you have a UEFI boot system.
If you see the make / name of your boot disk drive, then it is Legacy boot.

The process needed to perform the recovery are as follows:

  1. Boot the Dell PC using the Acronis rescue media in the same BIOS boot mode as used by Windows.
  2. Use a wired connection to your local network for the Dell PC so that you can establish a connection to your WD cloud drive and access your backup image.
  3. Perform a Disk level recovery from the WD drive to your internal Windows boot drive.

See KB 63226: Acronis True Image 2020: how to create bootable media and KB 59877: Acronis True Image: how to distinguish between UEFI and Legacy BIOS boot modes of Acronis Bootable Media

KB 63295: Acronis True Image 2020: How to restore your computer with WinPE-based or WinRE-based media

1- Acronis bootable rescue media on CD

2- older 2013 dell  it's legacy because UEFI is turned off by default

3- can't get into BIOS because monitor is BLANK

4- My guess PC is now DEAD!

thanks

Larry, is there any other signs of activity - fans running, either case or CPU, light on keyboard or mouse (glow from underneath), humming of HDD?

Duplicate post -ignore

Duplicate post please ignore assumed that timing out would result in save not working but I was wrong.

Larry, if you are trying to upgrade a 2013 vintage Dell PC using Legacy boot mode to Windows 11 then it suggests that you are also trying to bypass the system requirements set by Microsoft for Windows 11 which require UEFI and TPM 2.0

If you cannot get into the BIOS then there may be other issues at work here!

As you mention a monitor, can I safely assume that this is a desktop or tower PC with an external display, rather than being a laptop?

If it is a desktop, then are you happy to open the covers to access inside the PC?

If yes, then make sure the PC is fully powered off, turn off the switch on the power supply if it has one, and / or unplug the mains lead from the power supply.  Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to drain down any 'juice' stored in the power supply.

Disconnect the cables to the main disk drive making a note of where they go, and do the same for any secondary drive(s) if present.

Reconnect the power lead / turn on again, then try to start the PC and see if the display shows any sign of power on diagnostics or BIOS information.  Try pressing the Delete or F2 or F12 keys during the initial power on phase.  With the drives disconnected it won't be able to boot up into any OS, so it should either present an error or try a different boot type, i.e. from network etc.

If you are able to boot into the BIOS settings, then check what the boot device is shown as? For a legacy system, it should be the make / name of your OS disk drive.
If you see 'Windows Boot Manager' then the Windows 11 upgrade has probably tried to make the system into a UEFI boot one.

Did everything steve smith stated + a few more.

removed video card
fans work, HD spins, even tried another HD which was for backup of present HD

disconnected HD
removed memory
which should of produced "beeps" on boot
as per manual does have setting for UEFI
I was following a procedure over at win11 forums since only spec not meet was CPU.

I killed it!
