Some versions could not be deleted from this location:

Thread needs solution

HI,

I have Acronis True Image 2020.

Error message: Some versions could not be deleted from this location: 'H:\'.

So far I was deleting/cleaning older versions easily to make space.

Now it does not anymore and I have not changed any settings.

Neither the current BU nor the one from this month can be deleted.

Please help

Thank you!

Michel, welcome to these public User Forums.

How are you deleting your older backup versions when making space?

Are you doing this directly from Explorer or are you using the Acronis Clean up versions tool?

Hello Michel.

Could you please share screenshots of the issue?

Please make sure you don't delete the files manually. They should be deleted in the console always. Make sure also those files aren't open or locked by another service while you try to delete them.

Thanks in advance.

Thank you very much for answering!

It does not allow me to upload  pics:

"The file could not be uploaded. and

You are not allowed to place hyperlinks inside the text, please, clear them."

So far I have always used the Acronis Clean-up versions tool inside the program as shown in the pics.

I have not deleted anything manually

1. try cleaning up -> I did

2. clean up backup versions/ older -> Delete ->I did

3. Error message: Some versions could not be deleted from this location: 'H:\'.

Thank you!

Michel, is it possible that the destination drive letter could have changed during the life of the backup task involved here?  If so, that could explain the error message if some backups were created to a different drive letter, i.e. G: instead of I:

The only real way to dig deeper into this issue is to capture the logs for the backup task and review these.

Download a copy of the MVP Assistant log viewer tool and use this to look at the logs to see if they show any issues during the operation process?

The latest version of the new log viewer tool is at the link below.
MVP Assistant - New 2.0 with Rescue Media Builder (New Version 2.6.2)

If you have Disks & Partitions backups created on ATI 2020 or later using .tibx files, then look in the Backup Worker logs.

If you have Files & Folders backups using .tib files (or Disk backups from earlier versions using .tib files) or using Cloning then look in the Demon logs.

Other logs are shown by the MVP Assistant under the 'Active Logs' heading of the Log Viewer page of the Assistant.

The Schedule2 log contains information related to scheduled task but is one of the more difficult logs to read / work through.

The log files should be zipped to preserve their original file names if sharing in the forums and would need to be less than 3MB in size, otherwise you would need to share the zip file via a Cloud share service such as OneDrive, Dropbox etc.

Note: the File > Upload option in the forum has been 'broken' for some time with no indication from Acronis when it will be fixed!  You can still use the Imce File Manager option (the icon to the left of the YouTube icon) to embed screen images within the text of your post to the forum as an alternative option.

Hi Steve,

thank you very much for your support!

I have tried to change the USB slot but it does not matter. In both cases acronis detects the files ( right click on ATI 2020 /drives/open location) correctly. But still error occurs.

I still cannot upload the files.

Only pics ..

thank you!

Thank you!

Michel, I see one immediate issue that will cause the Clean up versions tool to fail as shown in the image below:

You need to have around 250MB of free space on H: for the clean up versions tool to work!

At this point I can only suggest moving some files off H: temporarily to free up space, then run the tool to clean up unwanted Acronis files, then move the files back again.
