Suddenly unable to access any of my full backups of my Drive C (other drives fine)
After updating to the latest horrendous Windows 10 update Version 2004 it was a disaster. So I did a FULL RESTORE of my previous days FULL backup of WIN 10 1909 and it worked flawlessly (thanks Acronis for that). Now I am trying to access my Drive C FULL backups to get a single file from a few days ago and I am suddenly unable to access ANY of my FULL DRIVE C backups. I have tried from the GUI, from the actual file, I have rebooted and now I always get the same error (see screen prints). They were all perfectly fine an hour ago BEFORE the successful restore and no I cannot access ANY of them. No problem accessing my other 3 drive backups from same PC, just (of course) drive C which I need. I have the latest Build 25700. ALL my backups are full backups .... I have 5 of them and none can be accessed after the restore.

Yes, as mentioned in my OP I did directly click on the file. NONE of them will open for this entire folder of backups but all my other physical drive (drives D & Z) backups from the same PC are fine. I have rebooted multiple times as well. I did delete one failed backup that was locked up right after the WIN 10 UPDATE. I have never had an issue directly double-clicking om a file through explorer until now. They were obviously fine BEFORE I DID THE FULL RESTORE because I was able to access that file at that time or the restore wouldn't have worked. The file I restored without issue was the one dated 6/22 which I now am unable to access either the same as the others. I do have a external USB drive with a 2 week old "emergency" backup of this drive and it is fine but doesn't have the file I want on it.

Was the deleted file in the same folder, i.e. WIN_10_C-0142.tibx or WIN_10_C-0137.tibx, as if so, then sorry but doing so would break the backup version chain with the way that .tibx files now work in ATI 2020 and later versions? Unfortunately even Full backup files now have interdependencies and should only be deleted by using either 'automatic cleanup' or else using the 'Clean up versions' tool.

Yes it was (but I did restore it and it still didn't work). Frankly I think that "feature" (especially for FULL BACKUPS) is REALLY DUMB and at the very least there should be some sort of warning message that you will screw up all your backups.
Evidently that was the problem. Thank heavens I was able to do a restore before I killed it.

Ed, the dependencies for even full backups has been complained about for a long time and by many users but is unlikely to change for ATI 2020 as the Acronis current focus is on the next version (ATI 2021) which is currently in Beta testing.
See forum topic: Full Backups no independent entity where this has been discussed in some depth.
One other aspect to doing a restore is that you also restore back the files used by ATI which are stored in the C:\ProgramData\Acronis folders to the state they held when the backup was created which may then not match the state of files in your backup destination locations.

Been using TI since the beginning when it was called something else and never was affected by this issue. Will 2021 change this? Unfortunately I can't restore the files you mention since I can't access any backups. 😕
Oh well. Guess I learned my lesson.

So are you saying that any stored backups are now useless if one restores a full backup that is a few days older than the latest saved full backup which is newer because they are now out of sync with the files in C:\ProgramData\Acronis ????

No, not correct, what I am saying is that the information about your backups shown in the ATI GUI will reflect the status held when the restored backup was created, so the GUI will not know about any later backups you may have made after that time. If you have not deleted any files then your backups would still be fine and you could use the option to 'Add existing backup' to bring in any later backups to the GUI.
