TI 2020 Cloud Cleanup

Cloud Cleanup continues to go on at least twice as long as the backup. I was told by their support team that this issue would be resolved in the 2020 version. Not So! Does anyone have a heads up on why this cleanup cannot be reduced to a reasonable amount of time?

Hello Marc,
have you started a new backup chain or tested with old one? If the latter, I'd recommend re-creating the backup from scratch, so that it could be created in a new archive format.

The cleanup operation in Cloud storage could take more time compared to the locally stored backups because of the different architecture. Every backup in Cloud is divided into the chunks of data that are stored in the different sectors of the storage. The product has to read the metadata first to find the chunks corresponding to your backup archive, then perform the actual cleanup + other system operations. The new archive format is expected to be more efficient , but the overall cleanup times in Cloud storage still will be more extensive than the local cleanup.

Ekaterina, please could you clarify the statement about needing to create a new Cloud backup to use the new archive format?
I had understood that all Cloud backups were using the new format and that ATI 2020 was now bringing this new format to local disk backups too? Is this incorrect?
Personally, I would not want to have to go recreate all my Cloud backups unless there was zero other options open here!

Steve, I was under the impression that cloud format was changed in ATI 2019 and recall no mention of a further change with ATI 2020. I would have expected a request to test the new format if there was one.
I did create multiple new cloud backup but that was merely to isolate backups that had ATI 2020 beta.

Dear Steve and Ian,
sorry for the delayed response! I've clarified the information about the container types used in Cloud
- First, the .tibx container type appeared in mobile backups to Acronis Cloud, in Acronis True Image 2017
- Starting with Acronis True Image 2019, .tibx is used for Files and folders backups from PC and Mac to Acronis Cloud in new backup plans
- Acronis True Image 2020 - new Disks and Partitions backups from PC and Mac to Acronis Cloud are created in the .tibx format
According to the RnD, the new format makes backups consume less disk space, is more resistant to unstable environment and allows faster search and browsing.
I'll add a KB article here after we have it published.

Ekaterina, thank you for the clarification about when / where new .tibx format is used.

What does the above mean with regards to existing Disks & Partitions backups to the Acronis Cloud created prior to ATI 2020, i.e. by 2019 or earlier? Does this mean that these should be deleted and new backups made, or does it make very little difference when backing up to the Cloud servers?

If you don't have a lot of the backed up data, I'd recreate an archive just to be on the most recent format. Otherwise we certainly don't force users to recreate backups, unless it is explicitly confirmed to be the only solution\workaround. As for the original issue with the long cleanup times, my colleagues don't expect the significant improvement in cleanup times just with the format change. If starting from scratch is painful, then better to wait a little.
