Activity tab states successful backup, not listed under Recovery tab

Thread needs solution

I have Acronis True Image 2021, Build 39216

I backup from 5 different workstations to a NAS, each computer backups automatically once a week. I've done so for years, including using previous versions of Acronis True Image. Sometimes, I update the NAS and that may take it offline while Acronis True Image 2021 is sending backups. This may be some of the issues? Does Acronis handle the destination temporarily being off-line well?

At some point during the last month, the NAS became full of crud and I cleaned it out. Does Acronis handle the destination being offline for longer than an update well?

I checked on the 5 computers and the activity tab told me that the backups succeeded and were validated. I go to the Recovery tab and lo and behold the last month's backups are not listed. I cannot find updated backup files on the NAS either.

Telling me that the backups were successful when the Recovery tab doesn't list them gave me a false sense of security.

How can I check that the backups actually succeeded?

Do backup schedules need to be recreated after a failure event?

Kat, welcome to these public User Forums.

Your NAS being offline when a scheduled backup is due to run should simply give an error and result in a short period of error retries.

At some point during the last month, the NAS became full of crud and I cleaned it out. Does Acronis handle the destination being offline for longer than an update well?

Again the NAS being offline longer is not an issue BUT the effect of your clean out actions could have a real impact depending on what exactly you were cleaning out and whether this included any Acronis backup files (.tib or .tibx)?

I checked on the 5 computers and the activity tab told me that the backups succeeded and were validated. I go to the Recovery tab and lo and behold the last month's backups are not listed. I cannot find updated backup files on the NAS either.

Sorry but difficult to guess whether the activity or the recovery information is correct here given your previous statement about cleaning out 'crud' on the NAS.  Is it possible that the backups were run successfully but your clean out actions removed the backup files?
If the files are not present on the NAS but the Activity panel says they were created then something has caused them to be removed!  It could potentially by ATI 2021 that deleted them if other related backup files had been manually 'cleaned'.

See KB 61844: Acronis True Image 2019, 2020 and 2021: How to delete old backups

Older backup files still present. Just those for the last month are missing. Is there a log or something that I can attached or upload that will show the problem?

I haven't done clean up since about a month ago. So if my clean out actions were at fault, why does the software tell me that it successfully made a backup, and validated a non-existent backup?

Kat, there are log files that you need to look at to determine why your older backup files are present but newer ones are being deleted.

There is a new MVP Assistant log viewer tool that has now been made available by Acronis via the Community Tools page..

If you have Disks & Partitions backups created on ATI 2020 or later using .tibx files, then look in the Backup Worker logs.

If you have Files & Folders backups using .tib files (or Disk backups from earlier versions using .tib files) or using Cloning then look in the Demon logs.

Other logs are shown by the MVP Assistant under the 'Active Logs' heading of the Log Viewer page of the Assistant.

The log files should be zipped to preserve their original file names if sharing in the forums and would need to be less than 3MB in size, otherwise you would need to share the zip file via a Cloud share service such as OneDrive, Dropbox etc.

Kat,

Can you right click on a backup task that you asking about in the app GUI and select Open location to view a directory list of all the backups for the task and tell us if your missing backups appear in this list?

If they do appear then it is likely that the metadata backup tracking has become corrupted.  This can be fixed by adding back the missing files to the task.  Let us know what you see for further instructions.
