Failed to back up file or folder
Am getting "Failed to back up file or folder" messages when I try to back up my documents folder which is stored on a local NAS to a local hard drive.
14/08/2021 10:07:42: 00 516 E00170027: Failed to back up file or folder '\\?\UNC\MxxxxxxS\User files\Davidt\Documents\Audi Q3\Audi_Q3_Workshop_Manual_2012_to_2018\D4B805FA8D2-6-speed_automatic_gearbox_09M.pdf'. It may be blocked by another application.
Failed to back up the file. (0x170027)
Path = "\\?\UNC\Mxxxxxxx\User files\Davidt\Documents\Audi Q3\Audi_Q3_Workshop_Manual_2012_to_2018\D4B805FA8D2-6-speed_automatic_gearbox_09M.pdf",
But the same file is backed up OK to the cloud copy of my documents folder. Which is strange?

Thanks for the reply. Yes. Both backups are using the same credentials.
I have done a new task with just the Audi Q3 folder and that worked both locally and on the cloud. A new test task using just docs locally failed on a different file in the same directory, and skipped 20 more.
The cloud backup was incremental and was fine, so I have set up a test task of the same docs folders to the cloud, and it is doing it very slowly, but no errors so far. Will report again when the backup has completed.

Update: Sorry for the delay.
Cloud backups always work perfectly, although are quite slow. I am in NZ but suspect working to a EU cloud.
Still get occasional failures when backing up the NAS to a local drive, but not always the same file. With the log viewer can see the File blocked message, and several ntstream_chunker.cpp error messages. Sometimes but not always, see a Error 0x2160007: No current partition message, although there is plenty of space. Also Failed to create snapshot for backup.
I saved the configuration, removed ATI 2021 and reinstalled, with the same results. Also installed ATI on my Windows11 insider dual boot configuration and got failures doing a similar backup.
However even though the task fails, it will rerun, and will eventually backup everything.
Any backup from system drive to local hard drive is fine. I am thinking there may be a network problem with the Synology NAS, which I updated to DSM7. RAID discs check out, so not them.

The default cloud backup location is (if I recall correctly) the location used when you first backup to the Acronis Cloud. When I first used cloud backups there were no backup servers in our part of the world. There is no one located in Australia (Au01). There is no way for the user to change the default server once it is set (I was backing up to a server in France); fortunately the forum moderator arranged for my default to be changed to the Australian server,

David, any cloud backup should always, ideally be to the nearest cloud data centre to your geographic location, so Australia rather than Europe. The data centre cannot be changed after a task has been created / run, so you would need to setup a new task to your local servers and remove the far distant one!
For Synology, I bit the bullet a couple of weeks back to upgrade to DSM 7 and haven't seen any difference at all with any of my backups to the NAS.

I migrated from the UK to New Zealand, and was first registered in the UK, so first used cloud backup there, but have created new tasks since.

Steve that sounds promising; I have not yet got around to upgrading to DSM 7.

I am pleased with the DSM 7 update. A lot faster to access. I look after 2 NfPs with Synology NASs and the fast remote access is good. My only concern is that my own NAS is a 213j, and that was on the edge of being suitable for DSM7.
Good news. I looked at the NAS and changed Min SMB to SMB2 and large MTU.. I also did a network reset on the PC. And everything seems to be working fine now. Just need to remove all those test backups.
Thanks for the help.

David, SMB 1.0 has been deprecated for some years due to known security vulnerabilities, so has been recommended to use SMB 2 or 3.

Hi Steve, It was previously Min SMB2 and Max SMB3; the change was to set Min to "SMB2 and large MTU". I also cleared the SMB cache.
