Questions about True Image

Thread needs solution

Sorry if these questions are covered somewhere else - I cannot find them, though.  I would like a different backup tool than I'm currently using.

  • How much free disk space would be needed to backup a 1 TB drive?
  • If a restore is done, are the original creation dates on the files restored?
  • Is there somewhere else to look to get these, and other initial questions, answered?

Thanks,

Mark

Mark, welcome to these public User Forums.

The space needed to backup a 1TB drive would depend on what percentage utilisation the drive has and what mix of files are involved?  The maximum space would obviously be 1TB if a total backup of all sectors (used and unused) were created, but that wouldn't normally be the case and most drives would be less than 50% full of data, and it would be reasonable to expect to achieve a compression of upto 20% further size saving.

When data is restored, then the default option would preserve all original file timestamps.

I would recommend reading through the first few sections of the Acronis True Image 2021 User Guide  which will give you a good introduction to how to use the application.

It will also depend on the compression level used. Higher compression takes longer and (should) produce a smaller backup. The impact of increasing the compression level depends on the types of files being backed-up.
