Universal Restore Progress stuck on 15% for last 30 minutes

Thread needs solution

Hi,

Have restored image to brand new computer, same size SSD.
Then, as per documentation, tried to use Acronis Universal Restore media to add correct drivers for dissimilar equipment.

However, when it is is 'Applying Universal Restore', the Progress bar indicates 15% Running........but it has been stuck on this for almost 40 minutes now!

Computer hasn't frozen and I go into other tabs, such as Task, History, etc.....but when returning, it is stuck on 15% Running.

What to do? Is this a common occurance?

Cheers

First: as I understand it you must first "clone" the drive to the new hardware (many of us prefer to backup and restore as this is less likely to go pear-shaped). Once the restore is completed, then if needed you will be prompted to run Universal Restore.

Second: if you are running Windows 10, the often the default drivers will be sufficient to get the new system up and running. I have found this to be so even when moving from a SATA SSD to an M.2 NVMe SSD.

Hi,

Seriously?

In the manual and in the YouTube Videos, it states use a validated Backup image.....so that is what I did. It did boot from that, but froze at the Lockscreen. So I then tried to use Universal Restore.

David,

The procedure you used was correct. However, the fact that you got as far as the Lockscreen indicates to me that using Universal Restore will not help. The job of Universal Restore is to inject the proper drivers to get the hard disk controller to work at Windows boot time. Getting to the Locksreen means the necessary drivers were already in place. I suspect the problem has more to do with security. Is this a computer with a TPM and Secure Boot enabled? Freezing at the Lockscreen isn't a good sign. It means you can't reset your pin. I'd be looking at the new BIOS for how Secure Boot and TPM are set as compared with the old computer. Keep in mind this is just a guess on my part. Freezing at the Lockscreen isn't a common problem we see in this forum.

Mustang,

Good to know.

I will just have to do what I really didn't want to do, and that is spend hours reloading everything and setting up.

They make the documentation look like transferring everything to a new computer seem easy....I had a suspicion that that would not be the case. First time, in many years, Acronis has let me down...

Ah, well.......onwards and upwards.

Thanks all.
