2014 multiple BSOD on snapman.sys Windows 8.1 Update 1
I recently installed update 1 and now I'm getting occaisonal (once every two/three days) crashes with snapman.sys. Are there any updates beyond build 6673 or any patches available for snapman.sys?
My current snapman.sys version is:
4.5.0.2231 dated 11/26/2013.

ATI? It says it belongs to Acronis. Anyway, it's a BSOD crash, again every two to three days. Backups work fine although I haven't tried a recovery. I'll take a look at the link you provided.

I just looked through that KB article I can create snapshots as well, no problems apparently with VSS either.

Ok, sorry for ATI reference (Acronis True Image), confusing I know.
There is something going on with the snapman.sys driver. Hard to say what it is exactly. if you capture the snapshots as described in the article maybe someone here on the Forum can be of help.

A repair install of TI 2014 may solve the problem.

Yes. Otherwise, you can uninstall, use the cleanup utility, reboot, and reinstall. That is the basic troubleshooting for software installation issues. Another lead is software conflict with disk maintenance or security software.

I'll try a clean re-install then and see what happens. Strange actually Acronis has been rock solid.

Well, I completely uninstalled and reinstalled and only three hours later another damn crash with snapman.sys. I'm sorry, this is crap to have to put up with this.

Frustrating for sure! In my experience these types of crash issues usually boil down to either a driver conflict, very likely here, or a hardware issue such as overheating, flaky memory module, failing HDD, unstable power supply, less likely but very possible.
Have you installed any new software recently? What anti virus do you use? Had a look inside your PC lately and blown out the dust bunnies? Troubleshooting issues like this are sometimes difficult, Best to explore and eliminate possible causes one by one.

Nope, it's none of the above, I've just removed True Image 2014 and letting it run for a few days to see if it fails again. Right now there's a consistent failure with 8.1 update 1 and Acronis with the snapman.sys driver failing consistently. no other problems with the system and it started happening after the update 1 was applied thanks to MSFT. So, something in the kernel or another low level driver interaction problem is what's causing it and unfortunately it doesn't appear that Acronis has any updates or tech notes on the issue.

You may well be correct. Have you taken a look at event logs .in an attempt to see what occured at crash time? I understand that snapman.sys crashed the system but what else happened before that in event log?

Well after a few days without Acronis 2014 on the system, no crashes or problems. I verified that everything from Acronis was removed and then reinstalled on Thursday, about 4 hours another snapman.sys BSOD crash.
To work around Acronis' problem, I've disabled the snapman driver in the registry, the documented methods (lowfilter/highfilter) doesn't work. Here's how I solved it for now:
Start RegEdit as an administrator and under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE (HKLM)->System->CurrentControlSet->Services->Snapman
modify the ImagePath key to add a 1 to it, i.e.,
system32\DRIVERS\snapman.sys1
unfortunately since this is a kernel driver you can't disable it using the SC utility, you have to modify the key directly.
No fuss,no muss and no BSODs!
