3 Questions about drive letter changes and incremental

Thread needs solution

I have a full and 1 incremental backup on an external drive that used to be called "O".

1) With Win7, the external is now called "T", but since Acronis is set up so poorly, there's almost no way to tell it that the backup is on the same drive, except it's now called 'T'. I think I finally stumbled across the way to do it, and correct me if I'm wrong.... It's not under Edit which would be a normal place to put it, but under Validate, is that correct?

2) Why does it have to validate? I previously validated it, so to do it again is a waste of time for me. Is there some way to just tell it to back up to that location and don't ask questions?

3) If Acronis has to validate, then which backup does it have to validate in order to do its next incremental? Do I have to point it to the FULL backup, or can I point it to the incremental that I made previously?

Thanks.

Although you could edit the task and choose another destination, I advise against because ATI will continue to think some backup files are on "O" and the rest are on "T".

Yes, see above. But not recommended approach.

I would create a new backup task instead of changing an existing one.

Also consider assigning manually a drive letter for your backup destination in the last part of the alphabet ("Z" for example) so that Windows doesn't change the drive letter when it needs to.

1. As stated by MVP Pat L, the editing of an existing task is not recommended (agreed),
but if you were to attempt such a change, the correct method would be the MOVE options found under the Operations listings for the task in question.

The preferred solution would be to start a new task pointing to the correct target location. The new task can be configured for automatic cleanup to prevent disk full error messages.

Wow. I didn't know that Acronis was set up so bad. I wish I would have bought a competitor's product now. I mean....they didn't even think of the drive letters changing??? What a bunch of morons. To do a backup takes 5 hours; not something I look forward to.

And what is "Verify" for if it doesn't verify that yes, the full image is a good one.

That said, if I do have to do a new image, is there some way to tell Acronis to NOT include certain folders? I'm thinking I can do an image in 2 hours if I don't have it do my data. I back my data up on separate drives anyways, so it's no big deal. It would just make everything go quicker.
