Acronis 12, 11, 10 Freezes on Startup after Initializing
I have a problem now after many reinstallations.
When I restore from the boot disk, it boots up in Acronis normal screen. I select Image Backup and Acronis screen pops up and goes blank and everything is frozen and I have to re-boot.
When I try to recover a backup using F11 key,the Acronis Startup Recovery Manager, same result.
When I do a recovery from Windows, it reboots, I see Acronis loading and it locks up too.
I have recently installed a new CPU, AMD FX-6100 and upgraded my memory to 16 gigs.
Running Windows 7 Pro x64
Suggestions?
Thanks
Terry

Relying from my laptop.

Have reinstalled windows. Same result.
Installed Acronis 2010. Same result
When locked up, ctrl-alt-f2 to go to command line does not work.
All results in blank screen and have to reboot.
System report from boot disk also has same result but to go to windows key works fine
Have tried 2010, 2011 and 2012 versions with same result

Dear Terry,
Thank you for your reply, and for keeping us posted. I'm sorry for the delay with the response on this one.
I'm glad to hear that you've workarounded the issue, and was able to restore the backups to the main drive.
The information you've kindly provided indicates errors on the C drive (112 Gb). BadBlockCount doesn't reveal any issues, so the problem might be related to the file system.
In order to fix the drive errors, please do the following:
- Start -> Run -> cmd
- In the command line please issue the following:
chkdsk /f /r
and once it offers you to run the check upon startup, press Y - Reboot the machine
Upon booting Windows will check the drives, and file system for consistency, and fix all errors it'll find. It should solve the problem.
Please let us know if the issue remains, or in case you have any additional question.
Thank you.

Just returned from vacation.
Have disconnected all drives except for the primary drive.
Generated acronis report after chkdsk /f /r and attached the results.
Same restore results as previous attempts.

Hello Terry,
Thank you for the update. I hope you enjoyed your vacation.
The report still states that there are error on the drive, but since you've ran chkdsk then there might be some problem with accessing the drive.
We'll still need Acronis Linux Report, which is a part of System Report gathered from the bootable media. From the screenshot you've kindly attached, I assume you that you've tried to create the report from Windows only. What result to you get when you try to collect it from the bootable CD?
Thank you.

Have done another Acronis Report from Windows on another one of my SSD drives OCZ 60g.
Renamed my previous report on my main Patriot ssd drive to reflect the 2 drives.
As previously stated, choosing Acronis Linux Report or True Image results in locked blank screen and Go to Windows selection proceeds successfully.
Booting from Windows Recovery disk, Hiren Boot Disk etc., I have no problem running any application.
Thank you

re:F11 boot
Do not reach that parameter screen as only have seen a split second cursor and then the locked blank screen after hitting the F11 in the boot menu.

Terry,
Just wanted to ask a few question. Are your disks running a firmware version free from known issues? While researching SSD's I looked at several brands. I recall patriot, ocz and crucial disks being particularly prone to file system corruption with early firmware versions. Even my Corsairs had issues with first generation sandforce controllers. You also mentioned that you have performed several re-installations. Were these reinstall of Acronis or Windows?
As Yana has pointed out, your logs are showing errors in both the MBR and file system. I wonder if numerous re-installs of the Acronis Start Up and Recovery Manager using one or more versions of the software might cause behavior like this? The disk structure on SSD's can be pretty sensitive. Am I off base here?

Hi Shadowsport
File system error: 33 (Unable to create volume snapshot) frpm log file.
Is this the MBR and file system error you both are talking about?
My Ocz had no problems with Acronis prior to getting the Patriot drive.
Now both have same issues with latest firmware.
Had reinstalled both the Acronis software and Windows 7 installations.
I will do complete disk wipes on both drives and try to see what happens then.
Have used Acronis restore for many years with no problems.
Just strange on both Boot disk and windows restore having the same problem.

Hi Terry,
It was late when I started looking through your logs. In addition, I am not an expert with SSD's. Have only been using them about a year. The second and third items in your log appear to be errors which resulted from the BOOT failure using the Acronis Media.
There does not appear to be any bad blocks, so the issue would appear to be with the disk's structure and not related to a physical issue with either disk.
I don't want to send you down the wrong path, but at this point, you have tried the conventional route. Perform your tests with only one disk present.... I think you have two possible testing scenarios. Perform a SecureDelete using PartedMagic below. Shutdown and boot from a ATIH 2012 boot CD. This should be the moment of truth. Might even be wise to Load Defaults in BIOS before performing the test boot.
If successful, install windows. I'd change controller mode in BIOS to AHCI, etc at this point. Allow windows to format the drive. You'll get the 100mb system reserved partition and the primary active partition marked for BOOT. After one successful boot of windows, try the Acronis boot CD again. Going forward, I'd avoid enabling the start up and recovery manager since it does modify the MBR. I hope this will be successful.
PartedMagic is a good option for Secure Delete:

Completed a secure erase on Patriot SSD drive. Would not erase in IDE mode in Bios.
Only Patriot drive attached.
Installed Windows 7 x64
Have not installed Acronis on the computer.
Ran Acronis Report from Windows. Have attached file here.
Changed to ACHI in Bios and tried booting computer.
Changed Bios back to IDE and booted computer.
Modified achi section in registry
Rebooted computer and ran Acronis Report.
Attached file here
FYI previous Acronis reports were all run from Windows as Acronis Boot disks kept locking up.
Booted Acronis Boot disks.
Same issues with freezing .
Will try installing windows on spare ide drive I have and will advise if problem related to only ssd drives.
Any other possible solutions as current Acronis Report detected error in Disk 1 Partition 2
FS: NTFS
File system error: 22 (Block bitmap corrupted)
Thanks

Terry,
You didn't try to boot from the Acronis boot CD after running a secure delete on the drive. (before installing the OS)?
How about with no drives connected? Will Acronis load?
I just generated my own report, and ours look to be about the same... minus the file system errors you are seeing.
- Se connecter pour poster des commentaires
I did and Acronis would not load and did all the baby steps like testing the memory etc.
Will now try some other disk backup programs and see if they have the same issues.
Wish Acronis tech would help as I have been using Acronis for over 4 years with no problems and when I purchased 2012, I only did backups and when I tried to restore a backup, the 30 day free tech support was over.
Have you tried the Windows vhd backup and restore yet?
Thanks
Terry

FYI "21403: Can't restore... Block bitmap corrupted (0x70016)" title found by doing google search.
Possible acronis drivers. TI 2011
Not resolved.

Yes, read that one.
I have not tried the Windows vhd backup and restore. What brand/modle MB are you using (curious)?

M4A89GTD PRO/USB3
Tried Paragon 2012free version. Great program.
Burned the rescue disk and had same issues with normal parameters on boot disk.
Rebooted again and chose safe mode and it worked!
Tried different parameters on creating TI 2012 but had same issues: acpi=off noapic vga=ask nopcmcia pci=bios
Did one of many google searches on Acronis Safe boot disks and found that in TI 2012, safe boot addons would be in only prior versions to 2012.
Went on Acronis site and downloaded TI 2011and the safe boot addons.
Removed TI 2012 and installed TI 2011 and then the safe boot addons.
Created boot disk with the TI safe addon.
Booted the rescue disk and chose TI full version and same prior issues.
Rebooted and this time I chose TI safe version and it ran perfectly with no issues. lol
Therefore problem was not disk related but hardware incompatibility.
Now what do I do now with TI 2012 as it is software related?
Frustrated with Acronis with their non existant support as I have wasted many hours trying to resolve disk problems on their diagnosis.
Also wasting your time .
Appreciate your efforts

Terry,
We sure gave it a go. You've gathered alot of good information along the way. I'm satisfied that the issues lies in compatibility between the 890GX or SB850 and the boot media. At the very least, support might be able to provide you with a patch to resolve the behavior. Certainly worth investigating. Trying to help was not a waste of time for me. I work for a software development company and test/solve these types of problems all the time.
I enjoy it and thanks.
