Acronis 2012 displays weird icons in windows explorer
Viewing a backup via Windows explorer displays weird icons for the folders. Example is a star for the main C: drive then for the Users folder displays a user icon with two people in the icon. (All folders are this way!) Very confusing...
This happens on two different systems.
Both Windows 7 x64

Nope doesn't work. The odds of it happening on two separate computers all the time?

Seems slim, I agree. But was worth a try as the easiest possibility. Offhand, I can't think what else might result in "weird icons" in Windows Explorer unless the icon specs for some specific registry CLSIDs got messed up somehow.

I believe its just another weird "bug" within Acronis 2012. I am getting to the point where I am going to go with another backup solution. Acronis releases new versions every year and don't fix the issues first.
I have backed up using Easeus Todo and I don't get the weird icons with their software just Acronis. I want to trust Acronis but cannot.
It is sad for me to say that because I have all the ATI Home's since Home 11. But it looks like they spend more time on releasing new versions than to fix the core application.

I can certainly understand your reactions. It's not my usual habit to repeat myself, but in this case it may be appropriate. As I said elsewhere:
Trying to fix Acronis quirks seems to get crazier by the minute! And some people just can't understand why they sometimes get yelled at in unflattering terms by frustrated users who feel betrayed by a "rescue" product that not only fails to "rescue" consistently and reliably, but that can actually put their system into worse condition than it was before in some cases. And that's assuming you can get the damned thing to install and/or uninstall itself without "blue screen" death traps in the first place.
Certain vacuuous, pseudo-intellectual platitudes that are sometimes offered in response probably don't help much to "calm the waters" either -- especially the "your numbers and complaints are relatively insignificant" ones. I almost replied to one of those myself, but took my own advice and let it go.

I recall 2010 or 2011 sometimes reset icons if T&D had been used.
To the OP, did you install for single user or all users? I'm wondering if 'all users' another login has the same problem, if it doesn't then ATIH might be less of a candidate. Did this happen by chance just after the last W7 update last week?

Fixed it, reset 'The folder and search options' to default. Haven't changed that in awhile, weird? But seems to be fine as of now.
One issue down 10 or so to go.

Interesting. So, rather than the icon cache, it was probably Explorer\StreamMRU data in the registry itself that got corrupted and needed to be reset. Wouldn't have guessed that one, but it makes sense.
