Acronis 2012 on stock Windows 7 not-functional

Thread needs solution

Have neen an acronis customer since the first product release, and as a power user, had been pleased with earlier versions, using them intensively on many different systems.

Reading forums here, I believe there are no solutions to the Windows 7 issues described below.... but even so I'll ask, and see if there are solutions I missed.

After at least a day of experimenting and reading forums I need to abandon Acronis 2012 on Windows 7. I'm creating an XP Home virtual machine and running an older version of Acronis (10 or 11) in order to access and convert backups to a backup solution that works with Windows 7.

System: Stock Lenovo M58 ThinkCentre with Windows 7 Home, all updates installed. Latest build Acronis 2012 True Image Home (May 10, 2012)

Cannot access backups created with Acronis 10/11.

1. Application crashes frequently: almost every time I run it, anywhere from a minute to 10 minutes into operation.
2. Application can load an incremental backup w/ 323 files. (browse for backup, add to backup list, eventually all 323 files are read and backup is marked green/valid).
3. Cannot mount, validate, or restore from this backup.

Other backups:

1. Occasionally can mount a full backup and get a drive letter and browse, but only after disabling Norton antivirus. Even with Norton antivirus disabled, application will crash or hang.

2. Can convert other backups to vhd, but application appears to hang, GUI disappears. If I open the monitor from the systray is shows the task in progress, but then the monitor/app crashes.

VHD conversion appears to complete, but when I try to attach the VHD to validate/browse contents, Windows 7 tells me I need to format the drive first!

3. Can restore a full backup using the boot media. Can make backups using the boot media. Since the boot media doesn't use Windows 7, that makes sense.

Hi Jim,
Did you perform a fresh install of ATI or was this an upgrade? Did ATI ever work for you in windows (this machine)?

Where are you storing your back up images (destination) Brand/Model of hardware

What type of anti-virus or security software are you running in your environment?

What errors does your Acronis log files indicate (if any)?

What does your System Event Viewer look like
Applications log?
System log?
