Acronis 2013 is not working on my Windows 8 laptop

Thread needs solution

I've just bought a brand new Asus laptop, Core i3, Windows 8 and I am able to install the product, but as soon as it loads it immediately shows the circular busy cursor icon, followed by "not responding" in the title bar. No matter how long I wait the program does not recover.

The only AV software on the machine is Windows Defender.

The software is also the latest build downloaded from Acronis servers as of 7/4/13 21:30 BST

Andrew,

Some things to try.

1. Run a repair install ot TI 2013.

2. If that doesn't work, uninstall, and run the Acronis Cleaner.

3. Reboot and then disable your firewall temporarily.

4. Right click the TI installer and select 'run as admin'

5. After the install reenable the firewall.

6. Reboot.

Unfortunately this has not worked for me.

I deactivated Windows Defender and Windows Firewall, reboot the machine, uninstalled ATI, rebooted, and then ran the Acronis Cleaner

After a fresh installation the issue remains the same. The program crashes on first mouse click after loading, or after about 1-5 seconds if you do nothing.

The computer is a brand new Asus X55C Windows 8 laptop

Andrew,

Please check to see if there is any True Image entry in Windows Event Manager.

Are there any manufacturer utilities running in the background, such as InCD or Drag2Disk?

Have you tried starting TI from the traditional desktop instead of via the 'Metro" one (it is no longer called Metro, but I can't recall its new name).

Does the crash message show any faulting codes?

In Windows Task Manager (from the traditional desktop - Win button + x select Task Manager ) how many True Image entries are showing?

I've just tried again

- removed ATI and reboot
- ran Acronis Cleaner and reboot
- fresh install and reboot
- ran the program, instant crash, nothing in error logs
- no installed firewall, and windows disabled
- no installed AV and defender off
- no running drag to disk or INCD programs running
- did have a screenshot program running in the background, so I disabled that, no difference
- also have VMWARE installed, its a big step to remove this as this is something I need. Not to mention ATI and VMware can work together to achieve some useful results. Will report back once VMware has been removed and ATI reinstalled.

I'm hoping for a magic solution here...

Just removed VMWare and the program still refuses to run. There is just nothing else running on this machine. I'm going to need some more support to see if its a chipset that ATI does not support etc. I'm not very happy that my licensed copy of ATI is not even able to start up.

I'm sorry Andrew, but I have no other ideas at this moment.

Does the recovery CD work on this PC? If you are outside your 30 day support period you can get free support if you have a recovery problem.

OK thanks for your help. I am outside the 30 day period as I previously installed this product on my Windows 7 laptop, and wanted to migrate to the new machine.

I've not tried the recovery disk on the new computer. I'd be very wary to boot the machine from this disk, make an image and then attempt a restore. If software does not actually load it does not bode well.

Thanks for your help.
