Acronis 2014-Lenovo Yoga-Windows 8 Cloning

Thread needs solution

Before I get myself into trouble - here is the scenario......
I have Acronis 2014, a Lenovo Yoga laptop/tablet with Windows 8.1.
I would like to clone the internal hard drive to a USB external (same size drive in a USB enclosure) so that if the internal goes south I can take the USB external drive from it's enclosure and put make it the new internal drive and boot up.
Now, I understand that Windows will not boot from a USB drive. So the USB drive has to be installed internally.
So my question is ..... having Acronis 2014 make a boot CD and since the Yoga doesn't have an internal CD drive, use a USB CD drive to use the boot CD to clone the internal drive to USB external drive. So imagine the Yoga with a external USB CD drive on one side and a USB drive enclosure on the other side and booting to the CD. With this scenario can a clone be made that will work?
Appreciate any feedback.

Your best bet would be to follow the recommended procedures for creating a clone in a laptop.

This General Information link on cloning with TI 2014 should be useful:

You should remove the source (original) disk from the laptop and install the target (new) disk in it's place.
Attach the source disk to the laptop via USB enclosure if necessary.
Perform the clone operation.
Remove/detach the source disk and boot to the newly created clone.

Proven successful you can then remove the newly cloned disk from the laptop and replace it with the original.

It is highly recommended that you perform a full disk mode backup of the source disk prior to cloning so that if something does go wrong you will have a backup to use to restore the machine.
