acronis backup

Thread needs solution

I installed acronis on my acer m3450 desktop running windows 7 home premium 64 bit. I created acronis secure zone for a backup on drive e which is a 500 gb hard drive. Acronis created a folder but it will not let me access acronis secure zone (it doesn't show up in backup locations). This has never happened with the other updates just the newest one. What is going on and how do I fix this?

I'm not sure why you would want the Acronis Secure Zone. It's really meant as a sub-optimal method of backup for people who have no external target to which to backup.

As you have an external drive for backups, I don't see the benefit of Acronis Secure Zone. Just use the backup drive as the target/destination for normal Acronis backups.

As to the reason you cannot access the external Acronis Secure Zone, perhaps someone else can comment.

I made a full backup with acronis and put it on drive e (my extra hdd) but could not access it with acronis (tib file). It didn't show up any place as a backup when using acronis.

I will be very glad to be assistance and help resolve your issue provided that we can gather more details as to the reason for your present issue. Please kindly provide us with the following listed below so that we may provide you with proper guidance and a solution accordingly:

- The time when you realised or started experiencing the Acronis Secure Zone issue.

- Screenshots of your backup list under the Backup and Recovery tab of your product mainscreen.

- The precise steps you take right up until you experience your issue.

- Any features or operations you recently carried out that may have lead to your Acronis Secure Zone not presenting your backups.

Additionally, if you would kindly attempt to perform test backups to your Acronis Secure Zone, to see if you are able to backup to this special partition and see these backup archives in your backup list.

Also, please note that it is not recommended that Users create Acronis Secure Zone on external hard disk drives, nor attempt to activate Acronis Startup Recovery Manager with Acronis Secure Zone created on your external HDD, as unforeseen and undesirable consequences such as boot-up delays and system startup issues may occur. What's more, since Acronis Secure Zone is created as a hidden partition on your external HDD, you will not be able to browse through your backup archives located within this partition through Windows Explorer, in case you have been attempting to.

Please kindly provide us with a detail account of your issue taking care to provide us with as much information as you can, attaching the necessary screenshots with your following post, so that we may assist you and help resolve your issue.

Thank you for your response and I will try and explain my issue. I purchased Acronis 2012 Home with plus pack and installed it on my computer, it was running Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit. I had a few issues but after a while everything worked OK. I have a internal 500 gb Seagate hdd which I use for a backup. I created Acronis secure zone on that hdd with backups every day and all went very good with the recovery mgr on boot. Acronis secure zone showed up as a drive on my computer and I used it one time to restore my computer and all went great. I purchased a new computer a month ago, an Acer 3450 running 64 bi Windows 7 Home Premium, and installed my Acronis 2012 on that machine with the newest update and changed the registration over. I created Acronis secure zone but it showed up as a folder not as a drive on my new computer. I use the same 500 gb internal hdd as before and was making my backups to that drive. I tried to create a back up with Acronis but Acronis secure zone did NOT show up any where as a back up location. I could not make a back up to Acronis secure zone at all. I have uninstalled Acronis and now I am using the Windows 7 back up and restore since I have to use a seperate disc to boot my computer when using Acronis or Windows 7 to recover my back ups on my 500 gb hdd. I liked Acronis with the secure zone and the boot up recovery since it was very simple to use and very trust worthy but since I can't have it I will go with Windows and save some space on both my hdds.

George,

The Acronis Secure Zone (ASZ) is not a requirement for backups, and it is not a requirement for the Acronis Startup Recovery Manager (ASRM). In fact, I would recommend against using the ASZ if you don't have to (you might have to if you have a laptop and you want to carve out some space from your disk to store backups).
The ASRM becomes inoperative if your disk dies! So it is fine to use it, but you need to make sure that your Acronis Recovery Medium is working (you have to test it and verify that you can recover files from your backup).

Did you try to create the ASZ on the system disk? If it failed, can you do this:
- right click on the computer icon on your desktop,
- choose manage
- choose storage, disk management,
- in the view tool bar menu, choose top view, list disks

How is your disk represented there? MBR or GPT? Basic, or dynamic?
