Acronis continues to try sending email notificaiton
Hello,
I successfully completed an initial full disk image of my Sony Vaio last week December 29th to a backup drive. However every day since then i have received a series of about 8 emails, one or two minutes apart, to my outlook indicating that my AVG anti-virus email scanner is returning a message that is trying to be sent by Acronis, because of an SMTP connection failure.
I have never setup Acronis to send me any email notification, so I'm not sure why it is trying. What seems even stranger is that the operation was completed almost a week ago, I'm no longer connected to the backup hard drive, and yet every day at some point i receive this series of emails.
I logged into ATI (Home 2010) and checked all the default settings for email notifications under tools & utilities > options and all the fields for the email notification settings are blank (except "set port" which is set to 25 and grayed out).
I'm trying to figure out how to get ATI to stop trying to send these email notifications.
Attached is a PDF with two screen shots. First shot is the body of the email, which shows the error message from AVG. Second shot is the attachment to that email, which looks like the contents of the email that ATI is trying to send.
Thanks

Have you by any chance enabled the AECP facility on install? Whilst this isn't sent by email, it might be the message that AVG comes up with.
In 2010 email notifications can be sent globally or per task, so you'll need to check both options.
The global one is from the Tools options and the by task one is from within the task.

Thanks for the feedback.
GroverH:
I initiated a new task. I had never used or looked at the tasks features. I noticed there was an unscheduled task listed. Also after I completed the the new backup today it also created an unscheduled task. I have since deleted both of them, but I'm not quite sure why they would be getting created to begin with. Any idea why this is happening? I will wait and see if these steps resolved the problem.
Colin B:
1. What is AECP? I did a search for that abbreviation in the forum and the only post that came up is this one.
2. You said "email notifications can be sent globally or per task". How is it sent globally? My understanding is that the global settings are applied to a specific task and then you have the option of changing those setting for any specific task as you like? Is that understanding incorrect?

Slap Happy,
Backups run from tasks/scripts. You cannot perform a backup without a task/script being created. Multiple backups can be run from one task.
If you do not want scheduled tasks, (because you deleted the last new task) then create a new task with the proper settings with no schedule. When finished, chooses the Run later option. Now, edit the task by clicking on the operations tab and choose the "create shortcut" option. This places a shortcut on your desktop and you can run your backups manually by clicking on he shortcut. Do NOT delete the task just created. If you do, your shortcut will not function.
Note: during the task creation, when on the screen labeled "Disk backup options" across the top with four tabs, when you are ready to click OK, click on the "Backup scheme" tab and click the OK from that specific screen. Settings seem to save better when saving from the "backup scheme" screen.

GroverH,
Thanks for your continued help, but the things i did from your first post to try to stop email notifications from being sent did not work. In fact there are now a series of the same email notifications being sent for the new task i created (and then deleted). I now deleted events from the log file as well to see if that helps. Do you have any further ideas of why this might be happening and what I can do about it?
Also thank you for your other suggestions but i don't see any "operations" tab or function to "create shortcut". I also don't see a screen labeled "Disk backup options" across the top of the task creation window with four tabs or the "Backup scheme" tab. Maybe these are on the newer version of ATI. I'm running 2010. I could attach a screen shot of what I'm looking at if that would be helpful.

As you are using 2010 the global email options are available from the Options menu from the menu bar.
The local options are available from within the task itself by clicking on options from the right hand menu list.
Note though, that with 2010 editing a task doesn't always work only deleting and making a new task works for some things.
