Acronis locks up computer on shutdown

Thread needs solution

When shutting down my computer I get the following message: "Acronis True Image is terminating the current operations, please wait. The computer will be turned off in about two minutes." The computer never shuts down and the message remains 8 hours later. They only thing I can do is a hard reboot (turn off power). This happens even when I haven't run a backup for days. Help please.

thanks,
hal

I'm having same issue with Acronis True Image 2015. Messed up a Windows Update restart because Acronis never finished whatever it thought it was doing and I had to hard reboot. I had no active backups in progress, neither continuous (which I never use) nor scheduled.

I am also having this problem. The recommendation at https://kb.acronis.com/content/19016 does not make sense. We are being requested to save a process monitor log at a time when the computer is shutting down and we don't have access.

It stays on the "acronis true image is terminating the current operations" until I turn the computer off.

I run backups on demand. I have no use for anything that runs in the background. I have always referred this product to others but my opinion is changing quickly.

I have found multiple hits with similar issues on the net and have yet to find any fixes posted by Acronis.

Comments relate to 2016 version.

Also be aware that this message will correctly appear if you have configured your backups to occur
On event--system shutdown/restart and the message is telling you the backkup is running.

How long this message appears could relate to what type/size backup you are performing.
if your backup normally takes several hours, then the shutdown could be delayed for that amount of time.

Again, note, I am referring to the backup tasks which you have configured to run
Upon Event--Shutdown/restart.

In my case all backups I do are on demand, full backups... not startup / shutdown tasks so that shouldn't apply. In other words, as far as I'm concerned, True Image need not be running at all.

I did notice that the last two backups were done to USB drives that have since been disconnected. Also, the drive letters assigned to the USB drives had be remapped to network shares. Could it be that True Image upon shutdown is trying to connect to the network shares for some reason? That would fail as the network shares use different credentials than the logged in user.

I would be disappointed if TI was trying to connect since my backup jobs were manual, full backups. TI should be benign in my opinion, and only running if I were doing backups to the cloud, scheduled incremental or differential, or some such thing. IMHO

Acronis is full of bugs and without any support. Perhaps Acronis company has a different perception of time. In my case, two minutes took forever. After some research, I have discovered that there is really no fix for this stupid bug. The issue is a persistent feature of Acronis software. Well, you can easily notice that the error message just changes between different versions of Acronis. In my case, the only solution was to uninstall this idiotic software from my computers. And believe me, this was not the only issue I had with Acronis.

I had no problem with previous versions as long as I remembered to tick the "Do not schedule" box every time i did a back-up.

The problem for me has come since I "upgraded" to the 2017 version.  How I wish I hadn't!  It is trying to "sync" all the time, so I have disabled everything I can find starting with "Acronis" in the Startup tab of Task Manager.  I prefer to back-up at a time of my own choosing onto a totally separate hard disc, and I hate programmes doing things to my computer unless I have asked them to do so!

William, if you have a problem with ATIH 2017 then please create a New topic in the Acronis True Image 2017 Forum.

Please see the MVP User Tools page on Google Drive where you will find a folder with "Common BAT Scripts" which include scripts to automatically stop or start Acronis Services, so that you can turn off the Sync Agent etc.

Thank you Steve,

Unfortunately your advice was far to technical for me.

I have tried to understand BAT scripts, but no joy as I am a non-technical person in his seventies.

I have taken your advice and posted this query on the 2017 forum, and if all else fails I will try to revert to my old 2014 version.

Regards, Bill.

William,

I just responded to your other post, so we'll take it up over there...
