Acronis online is awful

Thread needs solution

BULL!!! - if peer to peer and a cable modem can DL 9gb of info in 4 hours than Acronis should make use of faster FTP connections to the various individual accounts - - i find the service completely less than advertised - Acronis Online Backup is a thorough waste of time - i will be requesting a refund

If 600Kb/s - 1Mb/s upload (which is what I get) is not quick enough then please tell us your ISP and the cost of storing many gig on whatever server! Of course it will have the benefits of being on line all the time with automatic version and or date control and fast restore options too. Must be geat especially if it costs just a few pennies a year as well. mmmm BULL is a good choice of word too.

Hello all,

Donald, let me clarify the issue. Yes, the initial backup takes a long time. Online services depend on the Internet Service Provider (ISP) for performance and are independent of the actual software. No one vendor controls the overall Internet and Internet performance is a factor with online services, unfortunately.

Most customers should expect to back up 2-5 GB/day. Some users will have higher performance if they have higher bandwidth connections; others will be slower.

The good news is that, after the initial backup, only the new and changed files get backed up over the Internet each time. The amount of data will be much less and so will the time for each backup.

What you can do:

One idea would be to select only your most critical files for the initial backup. When that is complete, then add more files and folders for the 2nd backup. And use this approach until all of your data is protected online.

Another idea would be to launch your initial backup over a weekend or a time when you know you will not be using your PC for a couple days.

You can also set your CPU allocation to “high” in the options tab to improve system performance of the backup service. After the initial backup is completed, we recommend moving the setting back to “low” so it does not impact the performance of your other applications.

Please reply to this thread if you have any additional questions.

Thank you.

This is very funny. The Servers from Acronis are very slow. If I want to recorver a large file I am able to download with a maximum speed of 120kb/s. Acronis should upgrade there bandwidth.

For me, upload speed has levelled out at about 450kb/s on average. I have earlier tried a test restore and the download speed at peak time enabled me to restore about 200MB in an hour - I saw the download speed hit 13Mb/s periodically which is no different to downloading anything else I've tried. So I don't see any issues with bandwidth.

200MB in an hour is very slow. If I download everything else from the internet I need for 200MB only 2 minutes.

As I mentioned, at peak times my download speed fluctuates to 5 or 10% of the maximum I have. Overnight I was able to restore well over 2GB in less than an hour which indicates that the bandwidth I get is totally dependant on the service I get from my ISP, not the Acronis servers.

No it's not dependant from the ISP. On the peak time I can download with my 16 Mbit connection very fast. If I want to restore some files in the same time it's very slow. The Upload Speed to the Acronis Servers is now ok.

Well thats all I am trying to point out - for me, either backing up or restoring, the speed IS totally dependant on the bandwidth I get from the ISP at any particular time.

Glad the upload speed is now ok.

Hello, I had Acronis True Image 2013. After the initial BU my every two hour back up was fast. However when I upgraded to 2014 I tried to continue with my back up to Cloud as before but it tells me that now I need to start all over with the 7 day back up. Why? Bonnie
