Acronis TIH on Intel Atom Windows 8 tablet - Dell Venue 8 Pro
Greetings,
I am trying to boot from the TIH 2014 boot CD on an intel atom windows 8 tablet, a Dell Venue 8 Pro (64gb.) I have connected a USB to go cable in the usb port of the tablet,
and connected a cable to a usb hub. I have connected a usb DVD drive to the hub as well as a keyboard and mouse. I have been able to boot from the Windows 8 Pro 32 bit disc
on the DVD drive so I know the hardware is OK. The keyboard and mouse work correctly. But when I try to boot from the Acronis boot disc, the tablet just boots into windows 8 without booting acronis. I never see the Acronis boot prompts. I have also tried to install acronis to a usb thumb drive and boot from that the same way, but the exact same issue appears. On bootup I am waiting for the Dell logo to appear, and holding the volume up button. This brings up the boot menu which allows me to select the DVD Drive.
I used the power-vol down button combination to modify the bios settings for secure boot. It is disabled and usb boot is enabled. Also, windows 8 even complains about secure boot being disabled. Am I doing anything wrong? If so what do I need to change?

Actually I am fairly certain the media are OK because they are the silver media purchased via retail.

Yes, the media are OK. Tried the TI2014 cd on several PCs and it worked fine. Also tried a TI 2013 cd on the tablet and it did exactly the same thing.

John,
In the past there have been some Atom based PCs that don't appear to work happily with the Linux kernel Acronis uses. having said that, it would be a good idea to download the latest build of the recovery CD from your account and burn it to Cd/USB stick. The build that come with the boxed product is rarely upto date.

Colin,
I have tried the following since your posting:
1) I upgraded to TI Premium and tried creating a WinPE installation ISO which I burned to DVD. The WinPE disc works flawlessly on an AMD64 UEFI Desktop but doesn't even show up in the boot menu on the tablet. This is in contrast to the Linux boot DVD that TI creates by default, which is displayed in the boot menu on the tablet but never boots when selected.
2) I also used an updated TI (Build 6614) to create the installation (Linux) boot DVD. No luck.
3) I also used instructions from an earlier post in the forum reporting similar experiences on a surface pro 2. The post was from thread 44479 from 2013-11-14 18:47. The blue boot screen he describes getting to, lists the EFI boot loader on the DVD and reboots, but again it restarts into the tablet's windows 8 installation without going to Acronis. This behavior is the same for the newer build TI as well as the WinPE DVD.
Any help would be appreciated.

John,
Are you still within your 30 day support period? If you are, I would suggest raising a support ticket via your Acronis account, as I'm running out of ideas.
I think someone did find a workaround with a Sony Atom based laptop, but I can't find the post at the moment.
I have this feeling that the Atom CPU might not be fully supported. I'll see if I can find that out for you.
***EDIT****
John, does your machine use UEFI 32 bit as per this post?
