Acronis will probably tell you to purchase TI 2010. However, TI 10 seems to work fine for me on Windows 7 once you "unblock" it. Google is your friend...

hi !

thanks - but google seems not to be a friend to me... :-(

and you are using disk director 10 within windows 7 too ??

Go read about Windows 7 "Application Experience Service" and how it works.

I had Disk Director 10, build 2160, installed on Win7 Beta and Win7 RC, but I have not tried installing it on Win7 RTM. I almost never run DD within Windows; always from VistaPE or the Acronis Recovery Environment, so that's the only reason that it didn't get installed.

I've heard that the latest DD build 2239 will trigger a Win7 compatibility block message. However, build 2239 is defective and I would not use it until Acronis fixes it. If you have build 2160, hang onto it.

How do you "unblock" a program? I can't find it anywhere. Used Truimage 10 on Windows 7 RC with no problem but now it is blocked on GA version.

Earl:

I'm reluctant to post information like that on an Acronis forum. Besides, the program may have been blocked for a technical reason as well as a marketing reason. If there is a technical issue, then currently I'm only putting my own system at risk. I wouldn't want to put someone else's system at risk due to issues that I'm unaware of.

Did you do a Google search?

I would like to know this as well as True Image 11 would not run in Win 7 RC so I upgraded to 2010 and now it will not run in Win 7 pro.
Acronis support is useless.
Thanks
Ken

PS I searched in vain with google as well.

Perhaps those who can't find the info, are missing it, by not being sure what they are looking at.

I Guggled and Binged a certain mentioned sentence and the information was the first selection offered in the list.

Snakes in the African grass anyone?

Did you try renaming the installed executable in the Program Files folder from TrueImage.exe to TI.exe? I had the "compatibility issue" when I first ran on Windows 7 and that change at least got me into the program. Haven't as yet tried to do a backup and restore yet to see if it truly does work though.

Same problem here. We are told to do a back up before installing windows 7 then the install breaks the back up program. Nice. Mine is blocked too. True Image home 10 and Windows 7 premium 32 bit or 64 bit get the same block. Acronis states on product page compatible with all versions of windows 7. Also having problems with external (ata5) backup drive not getting recognized by Acronis but works fine in windows. This is after booting the Acronis boot disk since this is the only way to run the program now.

Additional note is that both Acronis and Microsoft are offering no free support. Nice

I did a Google search on "unblock acronis" and mostly found hits to this forum and Wilder's, but nobody posts the actual steps or how to.

Can someone please just post this information here or email/PM me?

Thanks!

Try here.

I was hopelessly blocked from running Acronis True Image 10 on the Win7 release 7600. Then somewhere cryptically, it said to rename "trueimage.exe" tp plain "TI.exe" and behold it started, no msg just normal, it even worked and found my network storage.  All this after trying things even with the latest build of True Image download.

Hope this helps someone as well.  Herb

There is a registry key that you also need to change. See the link in reply #13 above.

dudes its your trying to get a program four years out date working on an OS that wasn't even conceived of 4 years ago. The replacement is $30, is it really worth it?

True Image hit its high point around version 10. Recent versions have added more features, and unfortunately, more bugs; some of them very serious.

I'm not trying to get TI version 10 working; as far as I can tell it works flawlessly on Windows 7. That's more than I can say for the latest release of TI 2010. Cost isn't an issue at all -- quality is the issue. I would gladly pay for an upgrade IF the upgrade worked like it should.

From reading some of your recent posts I can tell that you're a very knowledgeable programmer. Certainly you are aware of what happens to a successful company when they lose their best programming talent. Judging by the programming blunders in TI 2010, one has to wonder if this fate has befallen Acronis.
