Acronis True Image 2009 does not start restore

Thread needs solution

Hi,
I have saved my system partition C: via Acronis True Image 2009 to an external HD.
I just wanted to restore my partition C. For that I clicked on the restore button, found the backup file on my external HD and clicked via the right mouse button to restore. After that I have chosen “restoring of total hard disks or partitions” and continued. After that I had to choose the content of restoring and have chosen C and MBR track 0. After that Acronis controls partition C and is listing the settings of restoring which eventually could still be modified. I kept everything unchanged and continued. After that I had to decide on which partition the MBR should be moved and I decided on disk 1. After that Acronis displays all the steps which need to be realized which are in my case: Step 1 delete old partition, Step 2: Create new partition Step 3 activate MBR on disk 1.
After that Acronis displays a list of the open tasks where my restore task is shown without a time schedule and status idle. Clicking via the right mouse button on start the task remains continously idle and does not start.
Does somebody know how I can start my restore task?
Thanks and kind regards Peter

This sounds like exactly the same problem I am experiencing.

I use Acronis Trume Image 2009.

My backup image is currently sitting on an external IOMega hard disk plugged into a USB port. At the moment my system is stable but I am obviously concerned about what should happen if I need to restore from the external HD using the Acronis bootable rescue media.

When things have got screwed up on previous occasions, I had to reinstall my OS from scratch and then after installing Acronis from within Windows, all I could do was to extract necessary files from the .tib files saved on the external HD.

This isn't ideal.

In fact this is an unacceptable situation therefore I hope that some specialists from Acronis can solve this problem.

Acronis... are you guys going to answer this question, if not this will be my last acronis purchase. It is totally ridiculous that your software will not start a restore process (as mine is doing the samething). ALSO... I tried to login so I could donwload an update to my ATI 2009 (as I know there is one available, that hopefully fixes this isssue), BUT your **** login site does not work... the certificate is INVALID and appears to point to an invalid domain. So I cannot login to D/L an update. In this day and age you really should have auto-update as part of your software program. There is no reason to hide your updates behind a login when us users have valid keys. ps. your forum search featur ****, please add an advance search feature.

When restoring my drive C: (which is of course the active OS partition), I always boot with the Acronis Recovery CD and use it to start the restore process. To me, that seems to be the proper and safe way to restore your active partition since trying to do this from within Windows opens up Acronis to all kinds of possible interference from other running programs such as anti-virus and anti-malware programs, and from firewall programs, in particular ZoneAlarm. Even if you shut down other running programs, those shut down programs may still have active hooks into the system which could cause problems.

To create the Acronis bootable media CD, remember to put a blank CD in your burner before you run the utility to create the CD.

The "non starting of the restore", I think, was a problem in one of the earlier 2009 builds. What build number are you using? The way to get it going was to schedule it to run, say, within 1 or 2 minutes of the present time, depending on how fast you can navigate the menu.

Hello all,

Thank you for posting your question, I will be happy to help.

Peter,

Actually, the solution provided by GoneToPlaid should resolve the issue. Recovery of the system partition under Acronis Bootable Rescue Media is preferable. If you want to restore the archive from within Windows, please perform the below steps:

1) Please make sure that you are using the latest build of the program #9809 (the solution mentioned by DwnNDrty). You can check it navigating mouse cursor to upper line of the program then press ALT + left mouse button -> Help -> About. You can learn more on how to download the latest build here. Install the latest build and see if the issue remains.

2) If the issue remains, or you already have the latest build, please re-start Acronis scheduler, it appears that the scheduler service has been installed improperly.

- Download a special Acronis utility;

- Start the Command Prompt from Start -> Programs -> Accessories menu;

- Run the following commands in the folder you saved the file to:

schedmgr task zap

schedmgr service stop

schedmgr service uninstall

schedmgr service install

schedmgr service start

This should delete all Acronis tasks on the PC. You should manage your tasks from the scratch. Execute a backup operation and see if the issue remains.

If the issue persists, please download Acronis scheduler, which is a special utility to update the scheduler service.

Extract the downloaded file, run install.bat and wait for the process to be completed. The utility will automatically update the service. Reboot the computer and re-create the task. The issue should be resolved.

Wayne,

If I correctly understood you, you experienced the issue under Acronis Bootable Media. I suggest you to try ISOLINUX Bootable Media. ISOLINUX Bootable Media is usually more up to date than the Acronis Loader one. This is due to the fact a new version of Acronis Bootable Media is uploaded to the website more frequently than regular product updates are released. You can find the information on how to download the appropriate ISOLINUX file in this article. Please see this article on how to burn an ISO file to a CD disk.

Please let us know the results, we should be sure that the program runs flawless for you.

If the provided information is not clear or if you have any other question do not hesitate to post them and we will be glad to answer.

Ryan,

We have implemented this option for Acronis True Image Home 2010. You can enter the serial number when you launch the installation file of the program, and the update will be downloaded without accessing your account.  Please let me know if you still experience the difficulties in logging in to your account.

Thank you.
