Acronis True Image Home 2011 does not launch

Thread needs solution

My Acronis True Image Home 2011 refuses to launch. I click on the icon, windows User Account Control dialog will launch to ask if I want to allow Acronis to update the system, I say yes, then nothing happens. I have to admit this is only the 2nd time I tried to do a backup on my laptop. The first time was June 11, 2011. I see the TrueImage Launcher kick off then nothing. I don't know what is going on. I tried downloading the latest trial version and uninstall/reinstall. I still have the same problem. My system is windows 7 SP1. I have windows firewall on and am using ESET NOD32 as antivirus. I can't tell which version of Acronis I have since I can't even get it to load. Can someone please advise?

I often get a similar problem in Windows7 SP1 and sometimes it gets resolved this way:

Before you click on the Acronis icon to launch, open Windows Task Manager. (to open Task Manager type taskmgr.exe in Run>Ok)

If you see TrueImage.exe in the processes list right click it to end the process (see attacked image)

I've tried that already. I have ended TrueImage.exe and TrueImageMonitor.exe but it had the same problem. Something is preventing it from launching.

Hello Catflot and Rajan,

Thank you for your comments and reporting about the issue, I will be glad to assist you.

Catflot, it looks to be a drivers issue. I would recommend reinstallation:

  1. Remove your current install from the system with the help of Revo uninstaller
  2. Temporary disable any third-party protection software (other backup solutions, antivirus, firewall, etc)
  3. Reinstall the product
  4. Enable protection software

In case the issue remains or you're uncomfortable with reinstallation, please gather Acronis Info and Procmon from the problem machine, and submit a case with the information attached, and let us know its number.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!

Catflot: Just a couple of thoughts. Check you shortcut, if you have one. Right click, select Properties, Compatability, and ensure that "Run This Program as Administrator" is unchecked. If it is not checked, you can try checking it to see if that makes any difference. I have one program that will not launch on my computer if the "Run This Program As Administrator" is checked.

The other possibility is your firewall. Ensure that ATIH has Internet access. It goes out and checks for new versions of ATIH when it is loading.

Another thought: try right clicking your shortcut and select "Run As Administrator" and see if that has any effect.

Just my few thoughts. Have a great day.

Regards,
-Phil

Hi Philip and Catflot!

Thank you for your comments.

Catflot, thanks for the log. However it doesn't point us onto the cause why the dll caused the issue. Have you tried to gather Acronis Info and Procmon? It would provide us with the details...

Let me know if you need any help, I'll guide you.

Thank you.

Yana, should I just post the files here or open a new case and post the files there?

Yana, didn't hear back. I've created the files you needed. Should I just post it here? Are there any info in the files that should not be posted due to security? Thanks.

Here are my files as requested above. My True Image Home 2011 will not launch no matter what msconfig.exe settings I reboot with. These files are from a standard reboot msconfig setting. I am running Windows XP Professional sp3 with all the latest updates.

Yana, It has been a month. Did you get a chance to look at this problem? I have 3 copies of Acronis True Image Home 2011. I need to know how to fix this problem if it happens to the other computers. Thanks.

You should go to Acronis Tools and Utilities->System Cleanup.
This will removed older Acronis version or whatever is left behind after uninstall.
Reboot and it shoud work.

Unfortunately, the System Cleanup does not work either. The user interface starts and scans but hangs after that. I can't click to see detail, the ? icon, the continue or cancel button. Eventually, the UI will disappear.
