Acronis True Image Home 2011: Non-stop backup: Error code 0x01030001

Thread needs solution

I am using Acronis True Image Home 2011 Update 1 build 6597 on Windows XP Pro SP3, PC is 3 months old. I am backing up user data that is written to a data-only HD and targeting that to a dedicated backup HDusing non-stop backup. I was doing a 'test run' of ATIH to feel it out.

I got the error 0x00E40022+0x00000009 last night when I stopped NSB for a couple hours then tried to start it up again after making a change to the data structure on the source HD. I posted on a thread related to that error, however this one seems to be associated with it and there is no forum/knowledge base article.

This morning, I tried to delete the backup so I could start it over 'fresh' and got the error 0x01030001. NSB did not 'hang up' completely, it appeared as if it was trying to unpause the backup that I just deleted, and every time I hit 'cancel' I would get this same error code.

Here's the really strange thing. The backup apparently deleted the files in the NSB location (the alphanumeric directory), because I cannot see that directory anymore, however the hard drive still reports 32GB of data that isn't there.

I rebooted and NSB now is back working (no backup is present) so it looks just like it did when I installed it a week ago, but the target HD still shows 32GB of used space and no files. As I'm writing this, somehow I was able to get into the 'System Volume Information' folder and view apparent Restore Points, which revealed the location of all the .data files in a RP### folder. This was right after I ran Defrag to see if it saw the files (I did not defrag) and then Disk Cleanup which didn't see anything to clean up. Now I have no clue how I was able to sneak into the SVI directory, but shouldn't files be deleted when you delete them? WTF is going on here.
