“Acronis True Image Home 2011” tib backup file validates in “Acronis Startup Recovery Manager” but not in Windows 7 64-bit

Thread needs solution

"Acronis True Image Home 2011" tib backup file validates in "Acronis Startup Recovery Manager" but not in Windows 7.

What gives man?

I selected the following settings for my backup:

Data backup: - My Data

What to Backup: - Vista64 (C:) - DataTraveler (H:) - MainDrive (G:)

Destination: (Scratch Disk) H:\MyBackups

Backup Method: - Incremental

Backup Name: (VistaC) (KINGSTON) (MAINDRIVEX).tib

Additionally, I have a partition backup called

Partition_backup_Vista64C1.tib

which won't validate either in Windows 7, but will in the Startup Environment.

How in Windows are you trying to validate the image?

Right clicking on the image file. selecting validate as a task within TIH or by having auto validation as each image is made?

Are these tasks new or imported ones from a previous TIH?

Right clicking the TIB file and selecting validate. I can't even get the system to backup when it's in Windows so I'm not going to do that.

(P.S. I turned off that Non Stop Backup thing it kills my CPU, and I don't have a slow computer, it's a 2.0 GHz Dual Core Centrino 2)

Are these new tasks or ones imported from an old installation?

If you can't run normal images in TI there is something very wrong with the installation, or have you only tried NSB?

Have you downloaded the latest build as of yesterday and seen if that behaves differently?

With build 5519 there was a known problem of right click context menus not always working on imported tasks.

Colin B,

I was unaware of the new release. I'll have to give that a try. Thanks for letting me know about the new release! :)

I was using build #5519, the latest build appears to be #6574, so I'm waaay behind.

Thanks! I'll let ya know how it turns out.

Okay I did a backup and it worked in Windows 7 64-bit this time! :)

I've tried to run a validation of the tib file I backed up, at the beginning:

A notification message appears that says "Operation has started", and an icon appears in the tray that allows me to right click and click status, which makes Acronis True Image Home appear (but doesn't really give me a status...).

When the validation is completed, should some kind of a notification message that reads that the backup is valid appear? Or is the result stored in a log of some sort, like the Windows Event log?

Additionally, I've noticed that when I go in to Acronis True Image Home to get a look at my backup by going to:

1. Start Menu
2. Select "Acronis True Image Home"
3. Click "Goto Main Screen"

And on the resulting screen, my new backup reads "not backed up yet", and it says my backup is "0 bytes". Additionally it says that "The backup was successfully completely (Today at 11:14 PM)"

Now if I go to the location where the backup was made "C:\My backups\", the tib file exists, and it reads that it was modified at 11:15PM today, and the size of the backup is about 200MB

So in summary it's right but the program doesn't keep track of it's index of backups very well.

Additionally I tried restoring the files from the backup to another directory and the restore seems to work.

When I restored the backup, by right clicking Recover on the tib file, the Acronis True Image Home screen I spoke of seemed to suddenly remember that the backup existed.

However upon opening Acronis True Image Home again, it seems to forget that I've ever done or restored a backup.

Again, I'm running both the Acronis Nonstop Backup Service, and teh Acronis Scheduler2.

Not that it's that, that important but it would be neat if Acronis True Image Home kept track of the location of the backups.

Andrew,

Annoyingly the validation option doesn't have a progress bar, so you'll need to look in the TIH log file to double check for no errors. Though if there was an error it would normally pop up a message box.

I think you'll find that after opening and closing down TIH it may well start showing your old images. If it doesn't then one way to dorce it to sort itself out is to delete the metafile, which will then allow TIH to recreate from scratch. Mind you, if you choose this option, it would also be best to download the Acronis task zapper, and delete all the tasks in it's database as well, this way everything is clean.

I'm just about to install the new build, but speaking for 5519 and earlier, there was often a delay whilst the GUI updated itself, sometimes several minutes before it suddenly caught up with events.

I'm guessing that the "the TIH log file" is the file in the same directory as my TIH file, with the same name as my TIH file, with a .log extension.

(And indecently, what's the Acronis task zapper, and where can I find it?)

Thanks again,
Andrew

The TI log file is viewed by clicking on Help\View Log

Task zapper utility is found here.

The task zipper utility appears to be for an earlier version of the software.

Additionally when I ran the final command from the thread you specified it said

schedmgr.exe service start
Error: 2 (0x2) - File or reg item not found

Also, I restarted my computer, and checked what now reads the "Acronis Scheduler2 Service" which does not start, cannot be started, and when is started, gives me an error message that reads:

Windows could not start the Acronis Scheduler2 Service service on Local Computer.

Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified.

Have you moved back to build 5519 or still with 6574? Open up a Windows command prompt (Win button + 'r') type in cmd. Type into the command window net start AcrSch2Svc  do you get an error message?

Note you should get a message as shown on the screen snip.

Still in the CMD window, if you type net user Do you get amongst others Acronis Agent User?

In Services.msc is the log on, shown as Local System account?

Is RPC Server set to automatic and running?

In MSCONFIG under the Startup tab, is Acronis Scheduler Helper ticked and installed?

>Have you moved back to build 5519 or still with 6574?

After clicking help->about the resulting dialog reads that I am running build 6574.

>Type into the command window net start AcrSch2Svc do you get an error message?
- Colin

Yes, I receive the following error message after entering the "net start AcrSch2Svc" command:

System error 2 has occurred.

The system cannot find the file specified.

>Still in the CMD window, if you type net user Do you get amongst others Acronis Agent User?
I receive the following output:

User accounts for \\LEEAND00-PC
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Administrator Guest leeand00
The command completed successfully.

>In Services.msc is the log on, shown as Local System account?
- Colin

For the services:
"Acronis Nonstop Backup Service"
and
"Acronis Scheduler2 Service"
both of the "Log On As" files are "Local System"

>Is RPC Server set to automatic and running?
- Colin
Yes. The Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service has a "Startup Type" of "Automatic" and a "Status" of "Started"

>In MSCONFIG under the Startup tab, is Acronis Scheduler Helper ticked and installed?
- Colin

I don't see "Acronis Scheduler Helper" in the list. Although I do see, "Acronis Scheduler2 Service" listed and it is checked.

Here are the startup items that mention Acronis that I have in MSConfig under my Startup tab:

Startup Item Manufacturer Command Location
Acronis Scheduler2 Service Unknown C:\Program Files\Common Files\Acronis\Schedule2\schedhlp.exe HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
Acronis True Image Acronis C:\Program Files (x86)\Acronis\OnlineBackupStandalone\TrueImageMonitor.exe HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
Acronis True Image Acronis C:\Program Files (x86)\Acronis\TrueImageHome\TrueImageMonitor.exe HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Also, I've noticed that after I "zapped" the tasks with the utility you suggested, that my tasks remain in Acronis Home. Is this because I needed to run it from a particular directory, or is it because I was running #6574 and I didn't inform you that I was using it? (leaving you thinking that I was using #5519)?

Thank you again for your patience and time,
Andrew J. Leer

Andrew,

When you zapped the tasks, the whole Acronis database should have been wiped. The task zapper you downloaded, is to my knowledge, the only one available - I'll try it on my Vista VM later on today.

The scheduler service appears not be registered as a service, hence your error -2.

I forgot to check, did you run the cmd as Administrator?

Yep. Shift+Right Click, selected "run as administrator" to open cmd.
Vista? I'm running Windows 7.

That just goes to show, you can't guess an OS from the partition names. In this case, you should still see the same message in W7.

So scheduler still isn't registered as it should be.

Oh yeah that's true. The system came with Vista, and I promptly upgraded it to W7.

Yeah. So should I just reinstall it? (I checked, I can't repair the installation)

The fact you aren't offered a repair option shows there is an installation problem.

Uninstall, reboot and try again.

@ Tien,

Which problem are you referring to?

If you could reply in English, that'd be a great help, I had to get a translation from people at work!

Colin,

Any idea what the problem might be? Or should I just uninstall/reinstall ATIH?

Thank you,
Andrew J. Leer

I would uninstall, and start again.
