I am finding out that there is little to no support for this product. I'm glad I'm finding this out now rather than when i actually have a critical restore issue.

Greetings Calvin LeBlanc,
Thank you joining us on our Forum. I appreciate the thread you have created to submit your issue.
Please allow me to apologise for the inconvenience resulting from this issue. I'm happy to say that I will be very glad to assist you in resolving your issue.
Could you kindly specify which operating system you are running Acronis True Image Home 2012 on? For instance, if you initially installed the product with the Administrator User in the case of Windows XP, or you chose to Run as Administrator in Windows 7, and in turn, you attempt to uninstall it using a second user or a normal user, respectively, you will have difficulties performing either operation due to Windows User Account Control restrictions.
To further understand the nature of the issue, will you be so kind as to take screenshots both of your Services window, under Control Panel, Administrative Tools; Users window, under Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Computer Management, and on the left-pane Local Users and Groups, you should see Users
Please see this Knowledge Base article on how to run Acronis True Image Home 2012 as an Administrator, this article may very well be the single simple solution to your issue. For more information on User permissions using Acronis True Image Home 2012 see our Web-Help guide.
Additionally, could you take screenshots of any error messages, if any, during your attempts to uninstall or update your product, which will shed light on the issue during our investigation.
I highly recommend that you collect a System Report for us to analyse the respective logs to better understand what may be the disruption of your operations. To do this, please see this Knowledge Base article on how to generate the archive logs.
You may either attach the screenshots and System Report with your following post on this thread, or in the case of very large files, you may notify me to generate an FTP link for you to upload the files to our FTP server. I will be looking forward to the screenshots and/or System Report logs, and appreciate your efforts in advance.
As a last resort, and simply as a workaround to uninstalling, you could wipe your copy of Acronis True Image Home 2012 from your system, and reinstall the product or update to the desired latest build, however you see fit, using our Cleanup Utility. Please see this Knowledge Base article to download the utility and to perform the steps required to completely remove the program before attempting to start anew with your reinstallation/update installation.
To receive support from our Support Professionals, you may contact Acronis Customer Central and look through our support options or purchase a Pay-Per-Incident (PPI) directly from your web account.
Let me know if you face any difficulties during the process of any of the above tasks, or have any further questions that I can be of help with.
Kind regards,
Volkan

Thanks for the assistance..
Windows OS: Windows 7 Pro 64bit OS
I installed Acronis True Image Home 2012 as an upgrade from the previous version under the current user that has Admin credentials on this system. I will note that this is an exact system configuration but not the original physical system. I replaced my original system with this one and used an image restore to copy over the OS, settings, and configuration to this physical system.
Everything was fine until i ran the last update and now the app seems to be running in the background but I do not see any dialog boxes. I tried logging into the hidden admin account and the acronis dialog box does not show up there either. I think, somehow a pointer got changed and the dialog window is not showing up in my profile. I was able to execute the install file and uninstall and reinstall, but this did not resolve the issue. Acronis is running in the background (processes TrueImageMonitor.exe, and TimounterMonitor.exe are running).
Where do I look to determine where the dialog box is popping up, and how do i get it to appear in my profile?
I would try to run the Cleanup Utility, but I can't get to the dialog box to deactivate the current license before running the Cleanup Utility.
Submitting a screenshot would not be of use, as the dialog window does not show up and you would essentially be looking a screenshot of my desktop.

Calvin,
Several users have had problems with using the built in update mechanism. Try this:
- download the latest build installed from your Acronis.com account, in the product downloads area.
- after the download, uninstall 2012.
- follow the clean up utility instructions here: http://kb.acronis.com/content/24545
- launch msconfig, go to the services tab. Uncheck "hide Microsoft services", select all items, then check "hide Microsoft services" unselect all: this will disable all non-Microsoft services. Then, go to the startup tab, and deselect all start up items.
- close msconfig and reboot.
Install 2012.
Verify that 2012 is now working fine.
Then set msconfig to the original settings, reboot.

Thanks for the followup ! the cleanup utility requests that I deactivate 2012 before I run the utility. I can't access the 2012 to deactivate. should I run it anyway?

ok... I followed the instructions above and the issue still persists. No 2012 on the desktop or on the taskbar.

abwc,
Imaging software installs drivers that are very close to the hardware, and that can create issues during installation and/or runtime with particular hardware configurations.
Typically, I always uninstall an existing ATI version/build, use the corresponding Cleanup Utility, before I install a new build. It alwasy worked for me, except with 2012 :-)
With 2012, it seems that running a clean boot environment for installation makes a big difference.
If you decide to test some other backup software consider this:
- if your system disk has several partitions, file-based disaster recovery software (like Genie Backup Mgr, Genie Timeline, NovaBackup, etc.) might fail to give you a baremetal restore. If you have a standard single "c:\system" disk or "system reserved" + "C:\system" disk, you should be fine, but you will have to test it,
- sector-based imaging software like Ghost and Acronis will always be hardware dependent (therefore more intrusive with drivers and registry). So make sure you test properly the recovery medium when trying. Never install 2 backup software at the same time, and backup your computer before you install a test version.

abwc, Pat L's solution worked fine for me after the second run. Probably user error on my end with my first attempt. Thanks again Pat!

Try looking in Device manager and if you have any USB related items with the exclamation mark, or unknown items.. try right clicking and removing them, then reboot. Now that you have the Chipset software loaded, the OS should know how to make re-installation /configuration changes upon bootup.
